Michael helped us when we went to the library bar for a drink and dinner. He couldn't have been nicer or more helpful! No detail was too much! When I wasn't entirely happy with my dinner (entirely my own fault!) he was so accommodating. The martinis were amazing, the food incredible. If you like steak tartare or burgers you will... More

Recently we were in Toronto to attend a conference. We stayed 2 Nights at The Fairmont Royal York Hotel, and as our usual custom is in-room dining we did not change our habits! We ordered the famous pot pie Cobbelstone Stout Braised Short Rib Bourgonion and it was delicious, prepared and presented beautifully with salad or home cut fries! Would... More

Gerd took care of us and he was fantastic. The conversation was lovely and the service phenomenal. I couldn't have asked for anything better - and the food and wine was great! His recommendations were fantastic and he made sure we never ran out of snack. Ill be sure to sit in Gerd's section again. He made my first visit... More

The Library Bar is a traditional old-style bar. It has the feel of a historic mens club. Stick to traditional cocktails - especially the dry martinis. There is a food menu if you're hungry, but it is pretty basic. Busy spot after work so get there early.

We just had the best possible hospitality experience at the Royal York. Our server, Gerd was a consummate professional - something I used to love about servers at the Queen Elizabeth (I hope they bring them back after the reno.) He took it upon himself to make us feel welcome for about 3 hours, while we celebrated my mother's 88th... More

Drinking a dining here made me feel like I was high class lounge during the prohibition era. Top notch drinks and drafts and service to match or better the hotel itself.

Had a few drinks here at the end of a long day and the bartender was great. It will sound funny but the bar stools were super comfortable which made it easy to sit and enjoy 2-3 drinks with colleagues.

Visiting a girlfriend in TO, I convinced her to try the Library Bar for apps and drinks and we were not disappointed. I had fig goat cheese and prosciutto flat bread and a cocktail with honey foam and whiskey. The server was fantastic and the ambiance was pure class.

A historic made legendary, for me, by the exquisite service. Amazing how much that added to the experience three nights in a row. Great atmosphere and delicious drinks.

Great for the business lunch, or to meet with fellow guests. You can actually carry on a conversation over lunch. They serve real food, not bar style finger food.

Staying in Downtown West

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
