My wife & I just finished a light meal here which was a serious disappointment. I ordered the daily soup which was too highly spiced to taste the ingredients and "spicy octopus- patatas bravas". The octopus was burnt, the slender ends of the limbs looking like sun-dried earthworms and one piece refused to surrender to my table knife. patatas bravas... More

Pretty good prices and great taste. Service was quick and we were in and out pretty fast, we were going to a musical. There is a patio and an inside sitting area. They have some quick grab and go type counter as well. TIFF members get a discount on the grab and go.

I loved Canteen when it first opened. Loved their mac and cheese, prosciutto arugula pizza and a few others. In recent years, the menu has changed and is just not as a good. I would normally give it 4 but my last visit on Monday the 27th, gets a 3. They seemed to have added a lot more seating, so... More

It took much longer than expected to buy some sandwiches and drinks to take out. While the food was tasty, I'm not so sure I'd want to come back to this place. The server or cashier at the takeout bar was not being very efficient but that could also be because she didn't get much help from her coworkers.

This restaurant has a small but very varied menu. The place is hopping before theatre and is a lively spot with an open kitchen. However it did not seem too noisy. The soup was parsnip and pear. Delicious. I had the haddock which was light and flakey served on top of roast potatoes with a mustard sauce. $18. My wife... More

Went for breakfast and went here as it wasn't too busy. It's a little pricey but worth it. The Avocado toast sounds weird but it is amazing and very filling. Service is very good. It was packed when we left.

Went here for a non meat lunch and found a great squash vegetable lunch. I can't believe how good it was. Service was great too.

I was taken for lunch to this restaurant yesterday during Winterlicious. Chose the Winterlicious menu. Had the Beef Thai Salad. It was the most dreary looking salad I have ever eaten. I think they used the packaged Andy Boy romaine lettuce with a bit of bok choy thrown in, a very brown dressing and so the salad portion looked like... More

Pleasant busy vibe, comfy surroundings, and very good food, just short of excellent. For example, the fresh fruit was indeed fresh, but no interesting varieties. Both brunch and lunch were available at noon on a Sunday, which is nice.I had avocado on whole grain toast, with a couple of perfectly poached eggs and fruit. Friendly efficient service with a smile.... More

Staying in Downtown West

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
