Urban House is a great bar to have cheap food and beers. It is a good place for meetups with a few people or just to go with a friend. It is cash only but they have an ATM inside. It is a low key bar and I always feel very at home.

I went here to meet up with an old friend. We had a lot of options in the area but went here because I was told it was really affordable. This was definitely true! Great spot to get the best bang for your buck. The drinks are great and the atmosphere is comfortable. I couldn't believe they had Sapporo pints... More

You could say this is a hipster bar, I fell completely in love with Urban House. Great unique atmosphere, they have daily food and drink specials. It was one of the most affordable restaurants near Yonge Street. My chicken and shrimp pasta dinner was around $8 CAD and a pitcher of beer was only around $10-$15 CAD. If you are... More

When places on nearby Yonge Street are crowed this is a great little bar to retreat to. The outside deck is very pleasant and there is a good range of microbrews.

We found this place and decided to give it a try as it seemed to have a lovely atmosphere and we were not disappointed; I wish we had tried their food sooner! Possibly the most eclectic menu I have ever seen, which actually makes it excellent as everone will find something to eat. The food was nice and the prices... More

I was in Canada for two weeks, and I went to a few bar and grills up and down eastern Canada (for food and just to drink) the prices were the best we visited. Not just for the drinks, the food was excellent too and very cheap. The staff are very friendly and deserve the tips amd wages they receive

Went here last Saturday and wow the prices are excellent for Toronto! Staff was very friendly and they had great hip hop beats. We sat on the tree covered front patio, it was a nice chill ambiance. Bathrooms are sketch.

Friends and I were bored on a Friday night, and couldn't figure out what to do. I desperately wanted a gin martini because I'm a bit of a lush. We wanted something happening, without the roughness of a pub, and without the drug induced ravers at the clubs. This place was perfect. I ended up ordering spicy chicken (not spicy... More

My friend and I come here nearly every Friday after work to have a pint and a bite to eat. We stumbled across this place on our way to Brownstones or the Artful Dodger, two other Friday night after work favourites, when we spotted the sandwich board special sign. $5 pints!!! Used to be $4..75 for a pint, and we... More

A group of us were in Toronto for training. We came upon this small cash only café as a result of a search on Urban Spoon, after being soaked $8.50 for a pint of beer at Barvolo. We came in, looked at the bar menu and decided to stay for dinner. What a treat!!! Not only is the menu eclectic... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
