I work nearby, so I've been coming here for years. Their sandwiches and soups are great - and I had a Kale Caesar salad here recently that was incredible. The atmosphere can be pretty loud, and lunchtime can get very busy. The restaurant is self-serve, where you go in, get a table and walk back up to the counter to... More

Bar Mercurio really doesn't have a lot of competition in this relatively sparsely served strip of Bloor Street.....but it doesn't need any....as this would probably be the first choice of diners and coffee lovers anyway. Obviously a place for coffee aficionados and lots of interesting food choices and pastries as well. The small outside patio is pleasant in warm weather... More

This place is used by the University and other area businesses for corporate events in the day and evening often as its one of the most beautiful (and functional) contemporary (non-restauranty) spots in the area. But I know it as the BEST morning coffee / breakfast meeting spots in this area. Their espresso is by definition superior (it's in the... More

This is a great spot to meet a friend for a chat or quick bite. As the "little sister" of Bar Mercurio across the street it has a high standard of food quality. BUt it's very much a bustle-y daytime spot and the mixed service (elements of self-serve and service combined) make it less relaxed than it could be. DECIDE!... More

We dined here after visiting the ROM as it is close and was recommended. To our delight it was DELICIOUS ! We arrived about 12:15, a very busy time, however, Theresa is an AMAZINGLY efficient hostess and had us ordered and seated quite promptly. The amazing lunch arrived, one salad, one panini and 2 hot prime rib sandwiches that were... More

The Restaurant Manager, Tony (Antonio) was very attentive to me right from the start. He really understands the concepts of Quality and Service. When I went there the first time, I went on my own. I had lunch and a Double Espresso (Italian Style) all very good. Tony and I had the opportunity to talk making our conversation very pleasant.... More

After having breakfast at Over Easy, just east of L'Espresso Bar Mercurio, I really wished I would have gone to L'Espresso for breakfast. It's so much better. L'Espresso must have heard the complaints about service (if they were true) because the service was amazing. I was sitting solo on the patio and there were 3-4 waitresses always around asking me... The atmosphere in L'Espresso seemed inviting, however the gentleman at the register was not. About four words into my order he interrupted me to yell to another customer about how to open the door and then got distracted by other employees. He then neglected to say thank you after I paid. In future I'll be choosing Starbucks.

This place doesn't look much from the outside. It doesn't even look like it does proper meals. But it does. Great menu. Great chef. Lots of healthy food choices. The salad is excellent. No processed stuff. Friendly staff. Relaxed atmosphere. Wonderful, unusual desserts made in house, and just about healthy. I feel good after eating here: not tired and bloated.... More

The atmosphere in the patio is fabulous, lots of green, very fresh and very comfortable. The food was delicious, I tried the salad with calamari, it was fantastic. Staff is friendly, but very busy, it seems they don't have much time for they have so many clients in rush hour.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
Midtown is a dynamic part of Toronto with some of its most stylish high-rise residences and heritage buildings. The area sees busy shoppers with bag-laden arms balancing lattes in paper cups as they travel from one luxury brand to the next, taking advantage of the proximity of high-end shops. The reflecting pools, jogging trails, and nature treks of the Rosehill Revision are always a hub of outdoor activity, and after a workout from either running or splurging, many take advantage of the spas and massage parlors Midtown has to offer. Away from the bakeries, boutiques, and glamorous old theaters of the district's center, locals use the weekend to embrace the more suburban feel of Midtown's parks, tennis courts, outdoor markets, and the manicured grounds of Casa Loma, while families indulge the area's state-of-the-art playground and learning facilities. Of course, no high-brow district is complete without a healthy counter-culture: Midtown boasts some of the wildest street art and full-wall graffiti of any neighborhood in Toronto.
