This Polish restaurant has a bar with sports on the televisions and a restaurant part. They serve a decent meal with meat, patatoes and veggies. Sizes are considerable, prices ok. Service is fast but not all that friendly. In all, a good place for a decent meal against competitive prices.

We go here to order the platter - it has authentic polish favourites like cabbage slaw, perogies, schnitzel, and cabbage rolls. It's absolutely delicious. Unfortunately it gets served to you by a grumpy woman who is more interested in bar gossip - the owner seems to be "working" on his laptop and enjoying sports on the tv and the bar... More

Will never go here after a friend of mine was rejected from entering the bar because he had a bottle of water in his bag. The place was half-empty, preparing for a Euro Cup game. My friend was not Polish, and they claimed he was not allowed to bring his Nalgene bottle of water "because it's the law"

Tried to go here today to watch the Euro Cup. I had my bag checked at the door which I thought was odd for a neighbourhood bar in the middle of the afternoon. The guy asked me what was in my water bottle and I told him water and then he refused to allow me in because of a law... More

Horrible visit ! Be aware of the crook who owns this business! Went in for potato pancakes (placki) and few beers. Menu was given to us by our waitress. After an hour or so the bill provided had different prices from the menu. We were told by the owner, that prices are up during Euro Cup and we shouldn't go... More

I was invited by my mother for lunch at Chopin Restaurant. It was the most yummy experience I had in Polish food. I had the most amazing tripe soup. The portion was huge! Then we had pierogies, I must say they were better than mine. For desert we had crepes with strawberries and chocolate. My goodness, I ate so much,... More

We've been coming to this restaurant for over 10 years, always happy and pleased with the quality of the food. Tonight however was a nightmare. Not the food, but the service. Being the only two people there, we were privy to an hour long conversation between the wait staff and customer service of a phone company. The waitress was belligerent... More

I came here for drinks with friends and ended up ordering snacks as well. They have a front window that comes up revealing a small patio perfect for roncesvales people watching. The server was clearly over run (it was the first nice weekend day of Spring so everyone was out) but was very friendly and helpful all the same. The... More

When I walked in I immediately noticed the hot red seating and really classy ceilings of this hidden spot. When I ordered the Polish Plate for two I was really pleased at how simple and filling it was. My boyfriend and his family had been to Café Polonez (another Polish Restaurant) a few months earlier this year and he said... More

The old historical Roncesvalles Polish Village started its long transition in the late 70's and through the 80's into the more cosmopolitan and gentrified neighbourhood it is today. Pope John Paul II's dining at the old go-to (and sadly departed) Sir Nicolas Tavern during his 1984 visit was about the time the Cafe Chopin popped up and it has managed... More

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
The go-to area for new business start-ups, the spry and creative persona of the West End thrives along its streets. Its independent boutiques, galleries, restaurants, and shops offer brands that can't be found elsewhere. Buildings with ground floor consumer spaces sport up-top artist's lofts, and the West End attracts artists, designers, and fashion industry professionals to its living quarters. It is in the cross-hairs of gentrification, but still resisting it with ironic relish. Hot deals can still be found here on furniture and knick-knacks,. Its call to culinary glory is in its well-priced homemade Polish food, hosting Toronto's go-to spots for hot pierogis and cold borscht. High Park, the largest green space in the city, is a place for dreamers and poets to wander and rest, not to mention a number of energetic actors staging outdoor plays in the summertime.
