Walking into this restaurant, I had high hopes for a great meal. I've noticed the advertising at the subway station and finally thought, I should give it a try. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the young server who was eager to serve me but mysteriously disappeared into the kitchen. She came out after I finished my margarita and asked... More

It's not very often I walk out of a restaurant before ordering a main but this place was quite dirty, the "frozen" margarita was lukewarm (and didn't even have any ice) and the server was totally indifferent about taking our order even though the place was empty. Finally scored some nachos which unfortunately were inedible - I've actually seen better... More

My husband and I ordered some takeout from Fernando's Hideaway. We were told over the phone that our food would be ready in 15 minutes. When my husband went to pick up our order, he waited for a minute or so at the bar before the manager came out of the kitchen. When my husband asked for our order, the... More

I just had dinner at the Yonge Street location. I will never go back. It was very poor. The service was minimal despite having three servers and only six tables occupied. We had to ask three times for some basic tortilla chips and salsa We were given only seven chips and salsa that was tasteless. The meal too, was lacking... More

I was your lonely diner at 7:30 pm. Good food, pleasant waitress, but the maitr d' sat at the bar on a stool with his feet on another stool and rarely looked up from his smart phone. Totally impersonal. Family Thai lasted 2 years. I give you 18 months. Good luck. PS: Some IKEA cushions on the benches would be... More

I had seen this place for years before finally trying it. When I finally did I found the food to be pretty average. Nothing wrong with anything per se but certainly not an exceptional experience in any way. I had the enchiladas and they were okay.

This was a spur of the moment, 13th anniversary lunch-but closer to dinner-kind of stop for us! Lol We've been craving real Mexican food for awhile and always pass by this place so we stopped and were pleasant surprised by the awesome service and fresh, fast, and delicious food! I was kind of freaking out reading some of the bad... More

Reasonable priced drinks, not well made, same with the food. Reasonable size servings of average food, nothing particularly beyond Taco bell. Served luke warm.

Had lunch here on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016. Quite disappointing. I had been to the old Hernando's Hideaway which was a Toronto staple on Yonge just south of Wellesley. This "Fernando's Hideaway" has opened just north of Wellesley. My friend and I both ordered lunch specials which came with rice, refried beans and salad. The main dishes were not bad,... More

We thought that a place that's been around for 30 years would be good...boy were we wrong. The tiny bowl of about 8 chips and a bland, thick "salsa" was a joke considering there were four of us at the table. The food we ordered was gross and when we decided to try the churros it was the biggest disappointment.... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
