What a treat! The food was homemade and it felt as if I were at my sunt's house for dinner. The ambiance was warm and the staff very friendly. It's a must stop!

I love a good snitzel. This time I had the chicken snitzel. It was great. The cucumber salad was also great, but I always order two, as one I s just too little for so much meat. The palacsinta was also wonderful and so was the Dobos tort. All in all a great Mother's Day meal.

I know Hungarians love this place but for those who have never been to Hungary, this is not what the food is like. Maybe I went on a bad day, but the place is old, outdated and it just looks in dear need of a renovation. The chicken paprikas, which is one of my favourite dishes, was horrible and $20!... More

I don't know much about the intricacies of Hungarian cuisine, but if you are looking for novelty size platters of schnitzel and potato then you have found your destination. Other items on the menu include ghoulash, pierogies and chicken paprikash. The food is basic, traditional and good.

The old Country Style was a student favorite and a favorite with all on limited budgets: big portions, very reasonable prices. Gourmet cooking it was not, but that is not what people came to Country Style for. The re-opened version is a bit more upscale, priced accordingly. The portions are still big: four people in our group of five wanted... More

Stopped in for lunch with my partner and three grand kids ages 6 to 11. We being of eastern European descent were vary familiar with the food. Our choices of cabbage rolls, pierogies, sauerkraut and sausage worked out great and were gobbled up by all of us. The grand children had the appetizer portions which were quite adequate for them.... The food is delicious. Portions are generous. Started dinner with the chicken soup - absolutely great - flavourful and clear. We ordered the platter which provides a great deal of food. The schnitzel was tender, light and crispy served over amazing potatoes. Dessert was the custard square - over the top.

Once in awhile, you just need a good Schnitzel....and in the last few years, many of the 'Old School' Hungarian Schnitzel places have gone out of business. 30 or 40 years ago, on the stretch of Bloor St. running West from Spadina Ave, you'd find a dozen Hungarian restaurants. Restaurants like Tarogato, Continental, Korona, Sport, Duna Corzo, Hungarian Castle, Master... More

This restaurant was one of my favourite ones in the city but it has changed to the negative since the renovation the food is not as tasty and the portions are not as generous, will not go back.

I used to frequent West Bloor throughout the 70s and 80s. In a block range there were about 5 Hungarian favourites that I would call into. The Country Style is one of the last of these places with a refreshed interior but nothing threatening it's old world charm. The food is brilliant… like Grandma's and my aunt's cooking. Regardless of... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown is a dynamic part of Toronto with some of its most stylish high-rise residences and heritage buildings. The area sees busy shoppers with bag-laden arms balancing lattes in paper cups as they travel from one luxury brand to the next, taking advantage of the proximity of high-end shops. The reflecting pools, jogging trails, and nature treks of the Rosehill Revision are always a hub of outdoor activity, and after a workout from either running or splurging, many take advantage of the spas and massage parlors Midtown has to offer. Away from the bakeries, boutiques, and glamorous old theaters of the district's center, locals use the weekend to embrace the more suburban feel of Midtown's parks, tennis courts, outdoor markets, and the manicured grounds of Casa Loma, while families indulge the area's state-of-the-art playground and learning facilities. Of course, no high-brow district is complete without a healthy counter-culture: Midtown boasts some of the wildest street art and full-wall graffiti of any neighborhood in Toronto.
