We have dined at this establishment several times prior to this past visit. We always sit up stairs or on the open patio. We were running late so we contacted the restaurant to advise them of our tardiness as it was Valentines. The host advised us that was not an issues. We arrived at 6:20 and our reservation was for... Looking for a dinner before a show. Busy spot and right in the theatre district. Service is good and the food is middle of the road. We had reservations for 4 people and they were no where to be found. But a seat was easily gotten for us. Atmosphere is okay. Nothing to get excited about. Washrooms are useable but... More

We had a lovely dinner here this past week.this restaurant is on the lower level of Fred's Not Here restaurant located on King Street in the heart of Toronto's theatre district. The decor was attractive and the service was excellent. My wife had one of their pizzas and loved it! It was quite large for a personal pizza, and leftovers... More

2 for 2 hair in my dishes. First one was clearly baked into the corn bread and apparently was "from the butter brush". Second hair was at the bottom of my salad, and the manager believed it was also from a brush. I disagree, knowing the difference between stiff bristles and hair. The experience could have been rescued by acknowledging... More

We chose this restaurant as part of a Mirvish theatre package and were happy with our choice (although maybe I should be splitting the review with Fred's Not Here). We arrived on a cold, snowy night and were happy to get inside. The atmosphere was warm and kind of quirky, not traditional Italian as I'd expected. Our server was especially... More

Although we have eaten here before, I read some TA reviews and some reviewers were actually eating at Fred's Not Here, the more upscale sibling restaurant upstairs. The Red Tomato does not have patio seating or window seats, it's in the basement. However, the menu has been improved and includes many of the selections from Fred's, probably at the same... More

Had a pre-show lunch prior to a Sunday matinee. We were nice and early and advised the wait staff of our relaxed timeline. We ordered and when we were half way through our appetizer our main course arrived. I could understand the haste if the restaurant was busy and they wanted to turn the table but it was Sunday lunch... More

Went with a colleague for supper, so excited as it was across the street at our hotel the Hyatt. The pastas all sounded amazing! Only tried the mushroom truffle and it was great. I had the pizza, pretty good. The coconut shrimp was not great.

The Red Tomato is right across from the BELL Lightbox. A perfect location when attending TIFF events, particularly with King street closed off and when the tables are setup on the street. A good place to be seen, and to see all the action. Due to rain, we had to sit inside, but had a nice location right at the... More

Staying in Downtown West

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
