Came here upon invitation of a friend.Like most "Japanese" restaurants in Toronto, it is owned, operated by Koreans. It does not matter whether a Japanese restaurant is run by non-Japanese if the food served are authentic Japanese. Unfortunately, this place is exactly the same as all those Chinese, Korean managed Japanese restaurants. Low quality sashimi (with salmon, which will not... More

Because it's Yorkville and Friday evening, the place is busy, however the staff can't keep in pace to serve customers even in their small restaurant. I can't recall another place with worse service in last 9 years. It wasn't just our bad luck, I observed that other people spend too much time in attempts to get waitress attention. The food:... Still one of the best affordable restaurant in this trendy high rent district. Comfortable room, friendly, efficient staff. Excellent service with no attutude. Standard Japanese food but a few things like sukiyaki, shabu shabu for variety and fun. Sushi is very fresh, good miso soup, non greasy tempura. Monday to Friday lunch soecials are a deal. Loyal clientele. A Cumberland... More

After visiting the Royal Ontario Museum I walked a block north to Cumberland St. in Yorkville to a favourite sushi stop and ordered a chirashi lunch. The tea & soup were hot, the salad was fresh & crisp, the service was friendly & quick, all as I remember. My sashimi on flavoured rice was delicious. I thought for a moment... More

A great selection in the menu. Went there several times and the food quality is consistent. The service is good and personalised. It's small and cosy, not a fancy deco but the food is to be enjoyed.

We came here twice during our short visit to Toronto and were impressed each time. Prices are reasonable. Service is friendly and the food seems to be good quality. I wish they had some beers on tap but the bottle prices are at least reasonable and the sake is good too! Food portion sizes are good too.

I had the pleasure of trying this amazing restaurant with a few friends! I was nervous because I hadn't researched it yet...it was what was closest to us at the time. Such a quaint environment, friendly staff, variety of choices and most importantly great food! I would go again in a flash.

Let me first offer that there are 3 sushi places within 1 block from each other and all look remarkably similar. The non-Shogun restaurants deserve a few less stars and I'm guessing some of their bad reviews landed in here because out of my perhaps 30 visits to Shogun, the food and service has been nothing but perfect. That said:... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown is a dynamic part of Toronto with some of its most stylish high-rise residences and heritage buildings. The area sees busy shoppers with bag-laden arms balancing lattes in paper cups as they travel from one luxury brand to the next, taking advantage of the proximity of high-end shops. The reflecting pools, jogging trails, and nature treks of the Rosehill Revision are always a hub of outdoor activity, and after a workout from either running or splurging, many take advantage of the spas and massage parlors Midtown has to offer. Away from the bakeries, boutiques, and glamorous old theaters of the district's center, locals use the weekend to embrace the more suburban feel of Midtown's parks, tennis courts, outdoor markets, and the manicured grounds of Casa Loma, while families indulge the area's state-of-the-art playground and learning facilities. Of course, no high-brow district is complete without a healthy counter-culture: Midtown boasts some of the wildest street art and full-wall graffiti of any neighborhood in Toronto.
