Had lunch here with a few lady friends. I ordered a beet salad and was anticipating a salad rich in beets. What I received was dish composed mainly of greens, with a few small piece of beet. Most disappointing. One dining companion ordered a burger. Not wanting the fries she was asked if she would prefer another side dish. She... More

Spirits is an institution in this neighbourhood, and is a solid choose for food and drink. The wings are legendary- make sure you get your choice of spice (mild, medium, hot or suicide) with honey garlic (I recommend suicide!) The hummus plate is an tasty option. The poutine is very good. Suggest you order traditional pub stuff than anything too... More

Went there for a late dinner (apps and drinks) The food was very good -- highly recommend the poutine and the brickworks hard cider. We ate/drank on the back patio which was beautifully lit with outside string lights. Our server that we had was very kind and made our experience even better. (we came here on vacation and she recommended... More

We stopped here for a mid-exploring break! The staff were amazingly friendly and gave us some great suggestions on where to visit next (including the wonderful aquarium! See other review!) we had some tasty fries, listened to some great music and left feeling happy and rested! (And just a little tipsy).

On a hot June day in Toronto, I was looking for a restaurant near Yonge and Bloor for my elderly relative and me. A lot of restaurants were closed because it was Monday. We discovered Spirits Bar and Grill by accident. Judging from the outside (with its nice-looking back and front patios) I feared the place would be too upscale... More

This place was quite busy on a Friday night, but not bursting at the seems. We waited a short time for a table on the Patio due to our party size, but it wasn't long at all. Beer selection is great. The waitstaff also answered our plethora of questions and made some great suggestions. Most of the places we visited... More

I came in a couple of times on a warm late May evening to have a couple of beers. It seemed half of the beers on tap were unavailable which is disappointing, and at a time were inventory management is crucial for any bar or restaurant, a little surprising. The beer I eventually had was very good but the service... More

The food was decent but nothing special. Great patio in the summer, but poor service out there. It seems like they are constantly understaffed and the servers always look frazzled when it's busy. Worth a visit in the summer just because of the patio, but overall pretty underwhelming and overpriced.

Took clients there for lunch, didn't know the area well, there's probably a better place. Manager/owner should be a bit more observant of the customers' experience. It was busy at lunch but it's a Friday in Toronto, you might want to be more organized and prepared. Don't order the Croque Monsieur - completely opposite to what it should taste/look like.... More

I used to come here often for their happy hour and for their tacos and pulled pork sandwich. They also have a great patio - front and back. However, in the past 6 months they have changed their deals and menu twice, and changed the prices. They no longer have happy hour appetizer/food specials. In the past few months they... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
