OK folks, this restaurant is in my old neighborhood. I grew up on the Plateau Mont Royal and for the best steamed hot dogs; there is only one place and this is it. They also serve one of the best spaghetti meat sauce in town. Food is plentiful and cheap. Highly recommended. By the way the neighborhood is pretty cool... More

I was taken to this 50-year iconic restaurant in Montréal's Plateau district by a friend who lives here and is a Montréal native. He claims this is the best authentic Montréal poutine available. We enjoyed their original poutine and classic hot dogs for a fabulous provincial lunch. The dining room is no-nonsense and the staff is friendly and helpful. A... More

We came in here for a quick lunch and all we wanted were a couple of hamburgers. We were ignored for about 5 minutes, then the waitress finally came over to us and she refused to speak English. We proceeded to order hamburgers anyway and she took our order. She gave us the total price and we paid and then... More

I've been there several times for brunches, smoked meat an fries ... This morning, service was awfull (asking twice for water, coffee, the bill ...) And everyone got bacon instead of the ham or sausages we ordered. The waitress kindly offered to bring some ham. It took 15 min ... Othetwise, it's a good greasy spoon, in a clean place.... More

Stopped in for lunch and had the Lasagna. it was very good with a home cooked taste. Large portions are the thing here with a very large menu of comfort foods. If you are walking around in Mont Royal and are real hungry this is the place to chow down. Friendly service and local neighborhood feel.

The service is quick and efficient. The food is not incredibly delicious but, as another contributor mentioned, it does the job when you're looking for some neighborhood junk food. Lots of booth seating. I always forget that the poutine sauce tastes just a bit odd. I took friends there who had their first poutine ever and although they liked the... More

Too bad this restaurant has "hot dog" in its name because it is anything but a greasy spoon! It stands on Mont-Royal Avenue in a trendy francophone district of Montreal and serves great food at affordable prices! Breakfast, salads, pizzas, brochettes, pasta are on the menu and of course, hamburgers, sandwiches (club), poutine and the like. It has daily specials... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
