My favorite restaurant. The food is delicious, it is a slow food concept, relax, sip your wine (byow) and enjoy a dinner as though you are spending an evening at someone's home in a small, quaint restaurant. Ennio is delightful and is the host, cook, server and runs the place on his own. I adore the tarragon chicken and the... More

I read a lot of reviews before coming here and planned accordingly. From what I had gathered - it took a long time but the food was excellent. My boyfriend and I loved the entire experience. I planned to go our first evening in Montreal since we didn't want to do much after traveling all day. Had a glass of... More

Lovely experience. Friendly, sweet owner who is also the cook. Some of the best Italian food I've ever had! Don't miss this authentic experience. I'm not sure which was better--the food or the ambiance.

I fell in love with this place. My 1st time I was actually alone with a book and got to really observe everything. I then returned with my mom and another time with my boyfriend. When I came in alone, I brought my bottle of wine and opened up my book. I really loved how at home I felt, it... More

Perhaps my expectations were incorrect or I didn't read the right reviews. This location might be suitable if it is your only plan for the evening. The service is extremely slow. I should have left when it took more than 5 minutes before they noticed we were there. The restaurant looks like it was converted from a family home. The... More

We went there with friends. The reviews were good and it is a BYOW. The place is quaint and decorated with various trinkets from across europe. It took more than one hour before the waitress took our order. The services were very slow. We came in at 7 and went out at 10:30, not wanting to order desert because we... More

On arrival, the restaurant has an unusual smell of very old cheese. We waited well over an hour for our order to be taken. In the meantime we were given awful white nasty fluffy bread. Our appetizers arrived about 2 hours into the service. Our main meal about 3 hours. The food was passable only. The highlight was that 3... More

Our friends, who frequently visit Montreal, highly recommended Chez Ennio. We were not disappointed. Ennio is the "real deal" old world chef from Tuscany. He prepared and served our meal himself. He does it all and has done so for 37 years. Everything was freshly prepared and delicious. We especially enjoyed the eggplant parmigiana, the melon with prosciutto, veal piccata,... More

I should preface that I am hesitant to write a review for the place because it's a little secret that I wish I could keep to myself. We had the pleasure of eating at Chez Ennio during a recent visit to Montreal. At first we were a little hesitant because the place was empty on a Saturday night but our... More

This is a unique experience. The chef/proprietor does it all and is very charming! Dined here with my husband and two children. My son (a picky eater) said it was one of the best meals that he's ever had! We enjoyed the ambience and the food. It was wonderful. As others have stated, this is not a place to go... More

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
