Usually a set menu is something to avoid. Last night Le Square proved that wrong. It was varied and interesting. The Salmon was a highlight only surpassed by my friend's "Cheesecake" almost parfait, add it that it was BYO and there was a bottle shop across the road the meal was incredible value. Could head back tonight....

The street is undergoing an extensive renovation and getting to the restaurant is a bit tricky. Once inside, however, the atmosphere is welcoming and the food is really quite good. They offer a three-course menu (entree, main, dessert) at a fixed price. This is bistro food with an emphasis on tartares of one sort or another, a fish, a meat... More

We visited Montreal recently and wanted to have French food because it is not available back home at an affordable price. Le Square is not inexpensive, but it is a minor splurge and its BYOB. The food and the service were excellent. We were pleased to see that we were the only English speakers, a good sign.

Excellent experience with wonderful food and service. Started with French onion soup and had the delicious salmon. Ended with creme brûlée. A 3 course prix fix menu available. BYOB.

What a unforgettable evening!!! First starter the restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere. We were then greeted by a friendly and curdeous who guided us to our reserve seats. As an entree we try the 'degustation tartare' wich is consisted of 3 differents types of meat and salmon tartare. It was spectacular for a dish we never tried before. Portions are... More

As a solo traveller I love the opportunity to enjoy great quality restaurant food in a casual setting. And Le Square is was the perfect example of this. I dined there on a busy Saturday night, and got a seat at the bar overlooking the kitchen. My waiter spoke excellent English and was very helpful with the menu. I enjoyed... More

I love coming to this restaurent whenever I'm in Montreal. The salmon tartare is my absolute favorite & their fries are crisp to perfection! If you're not a huge fan of seafood you can always try their 'bavette' which is absolutely mouth watering! The best part of this restaurant tho? The owners. You can tell they're truly dedicated to their... More

We ordered traditional French food....onion soup, escargots, steak, and were not disappointed with anything. Servings were generous, with the filet mignon the largest and most tender I've ever had anywhere. There is construction going on outside to repave the street, but it's well worth the effort to eat here. If we return to Montreal anytime soon, this will be the... More

Wow! I really loved the whole vibe and I must say that the filet minion was the most on point piece of meat I ever eat in my whole life! Amazing service, the waitress has the most beautiful smile and she was so kind! I recommend this restaurant for everybody : couples, families, business meetings... it can fit for every... More

There was nothing great about dinner here. I had to add a lot of salt to the onion soup and even then it didn't have much flavor. The tartare of stag (serf) was really bland and the escargots had almost no taste of garlic. My husband said the salmon was good but that's not enough to make it worthwhile. Really... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
