The dosas were very good, close to what I have tried in India. Reasonably priced food and very friendly wait staff. Staff went out of their way to explain the menu as it was our first time to the restaurant.

I have tried a number of Montreal Indian restaurants over the years, and have become disenchanted with my previous favorites. A Sri Lankan friend recommended Thanjai to us, and we are very excited to have tried it, and we'll be back! It was Boxing Day, so we made a reservation, which once we got there didn’t really seem as though... More

Thanjai is the best South Indian restaurant in Montreal (also the only one that I know of). It's a BYOW which makes it a convenient option. It specializes in South Indian dishes which is quite different from the Indian fare that we usually see in Indian restaurants (i.e. Butter chicken, korma, etc...). The speciality is a Dosa, a crêpe-like dish... More

I have visited the restaurant many times and the one thing that has remained constant is the flavour of the food. Great food, good service. I'm sure I'll keep going back whenever I visit Montreal.

For long time I was dreaming about eating home food in Montreal, far from my native in South India. Thanjai restaurant is dream coming true for me after a long long wait. I must appreciate the hardship and sincerity taken to start up an authentic south Indian restaurant in Montreal. The food is delicious and very affordable. It is very... More

We went to this place last weekend on sunday evening. We ordered podi idly, regular idly, dosa , mini tiffin....Everything tasted very very good. the dishes tatsed outstanding. I can't find a single fault in any of them. One thing I would suggest will be to keep the interiors bit more clean. Food was amazing , the owners were very... More

I am from South India and visited Montreal with family. I have tried various food across the globe. This is the best South Indian Restaurant without any reservations which includes south India. I would recommend people to give it a try!

We had an awesome dinner at Thanjai. The dollar idli and the sambhar were yummy. We had the best tamilnadu style "chicken kothu parotta". Unfortunately they had run out of Biriyani. Going by the kothu parotta, it would have been awesome too. The restaurant also boasts of 6 ft dosa (and they show a video of the process :) )... More
