I had previously attended a large group dinner, but this time it was a party of 4. Menu changes daily and your meal is individually prepared, so all is fresh and tasty. Some unusual combinations of ingredients work very well. Great place

We held our wedding at Machiavelli, and could not have had a better experience. The chef, manager, wait and kitchen staff were so kind and accommodating of all of our special requests. The staff set up the terrasse for the ceremony (chairs, light strands, tables) and even decorated the inside of the restaurant for our event. We had the cocktail... More

Restaurant was closed for our private gathering. They did a great job with their group menu and were willing to work to accommodate diet issues and other requests. They managed to serve an "active" crowd that was constantly moving around without problems. Small staff was extremely efficient and polite. Food was excellent and varied in taste and presentation. Price was... More

What we ate was good to taste but escargots we can easily do better at home, duck was way overcooked, bouillabaisse is not anywhere close to what you expect (they serve a piece of fish with broth). As for service, inexperience shows.

Cute little place, a bit draft in winter....we had friendly but oh so slow service here....and when our food finally came I felt so disappointed. It tasted like a home cooked meal....nothing gourmet or inspiring....and when I say home cooked...I mean bland and uninteresting. I expect to be more dazzled in a restaurant...brussell sprouts and beets are not my favourite.....desserts... More

Machiavelli offers creative cuisine with an always changing menu, we go there several times a years and never got bored, In the summer the terrace is quiet and romantic, in the winter the ambiance is warn and welcoming. As it's a ''Bring your own wine'' the bill is very reasonable for the food you get. Did you know that one... More

Really enjoyed the food here, it was simple, well prepared and the service was very good. We had the bouillabaisse with the risotto and the foie gras to start. Pretty good portions and we left very satisfied. The only thing I would say is the risotto was very cheesy, almost like eating mac and cheese. It was good but very... More

My wife and I have dined at Machiavelli's a few times, most of which we call a "Local sure bet". Good service! Well prepared food at a fair price (BYOW). Out last visit was just 'ok'. My wife had the escargot, very good served in the standard butter/garlic sauce, and pasta with feta cheese. The escargot was the the winner... More

We love BYOWs and we decided to try this restaurant based upon its amazing reviews. We were NOT disappointing! The restaurant is on the tiny side, only one person to serve everyone who was there, so don't expect super fast service... the food was amazing! We tried a variety of things on the menu and everything was good. The duck... More

I've been here 4 times and every single time it's been a great experience. The menu is not long but it is tasty and there is a choice for everyone (meat, fish, veg). The other great thing are the private rooms. Prices are very reasonable. Well worth it! One other great thing, it's easy to park and if you are... More

Staying in Le Sud-Ouest (Southwest District)

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Sud-Ouest (Southwest District)
Once the core of industrialised Montreal, the factories and historic buildings of Le Sud-Ouest have been renovated into homes, museums, and small businesses. The rejuvenated landscape has put its Saint-Henri district in vogue, with cutting-edge galleries and an ever-expanding network of restaurants. Foodies can especially delight in the mom-and-pop shops in Little Burgundy, or at the Atwater Market, where outdoor stalls sell fresh fruit, vegetables, and meat, street vendors have menus of hot fish and wine, and the indoor market offers chocolate, breads, and coffee beans. Dominated by the gentle waters of the Lachine Canal, Le Sud-Ouest is still very much an outdoor town, with a number of pedestrian-only bridges traversing the waters, bike paths along the canal with views of the Leisure Boats, and massive green spaces like Angrignon Park to stop for a picnic, or to play a sport.
