First visit for me and it won't be the last. I read the reviews on-line before hand and what you read is what you get. The decor is a bit tired and worn but it is clean and the service was prompt and friendly. The food was better than I expected. It's not fine Chinese dining but the food was... More

I came upon this place by accident, and upon walking in, this place definitely didn't sell me on the atmosphere or decoration. The place is very simple in character, yet it reminded me of a simple Chinese restaurant in Asia or other Chinatowns found throughout the world. More importantly though, the service was prompt, and the food was better. I... More

The decorator needs to be fired, but the food makes you forget all that. Prices are very reasonable (cost less then $35 for two and we took food home), the service was quick and food was fantastic! A++

As some have already stated, "go for the food not the ambiance" (and/or decor). Know for its simple authenticity, this little hole in the wall has one of the best (if not the best) won ton soups in town (having eaten there at all kinds of hours, I've seen the staff prepare the won tons on the spot). Cantonese chow... More

I have been going there since it opened it's doors 40 years ago. The food is great 99% of the time. My wife and kids love it and so do all of my friends. Food is authentic and not the usual Americanized Chinese food.

Don't let the functional look and gruff staff turn you off. The food here is authentic and excellent.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Bakeries, markets, restaurants, and buffets crowd the brightly graffitied streets of Chinatown, the city's aromatic destination for pan-Asian cuisine. Distinguished at its entry points by towering vermillion paifang gates, the compact neighbourhood acts as a focal point for the Chinese community, hectic with educational facilities, cultural centres, acupuncturists, and foreign-language newspapers. Especially vibrant in the warmer months, when the sweet smell of dragon beard candy along the pedestrian walks of Rue de la Gauchetière signal the beginning of the outdoor street fair season, Chinatown is a treasure hunter's dream, with enough knickknack and curiosity shops to tempt even the pickiest shoppers. The convivial vibe picks up after dark, when the area's active nightlife offers evening crowds their choice of drink, dance, and midnight snacks of pho or oysters. Chinatown's mix of new and old, with herbal remedies being sold alongside pop-culture DVDs, gives the area its own animated brand of moxie.
