We arrived around 11:45 for lunch - not a lot of people. It was very cold outside so we had to keep our coats on. At 12:15, more people arrived and it warmed up the place. The service was good. We asked for tea but I had to ask again. Besides that, the 4 of us enjoyed our meals.

Upon arrival, we had to wait a bit before getting our order taken (even for water), it was near the closing time. As soon as we got to order it was pretty fast. Considering the low prices menu, the food is kinda good. It tasted fresh even thouh it was not gastronomy. (You don't go there for gastronomy anyway). The... More

This BYOW (bring your own wine) establishment is situated in the middle of the gay village- While the service is nothing short of pathetic, the inexpensive dishes, large portions, and outstanding food was all amazing! You can tell that the ingredients they use are fresh and unlike many other Thai restaurants in Montreal, nothing is slathered in oil. We ordered... More

Called in tonight for dinner, you have to take your own wine, which we found quaint, as this sort if thing ended in the UK decades ago. We had a nice Chardonnay from our weekend in Niagara on the lake. The service was first class, and the set menu very good value, who knew fried ice cream could taste as... More

Bato Thai as moved from his last place and it is now the near the Papineau metro station instead of Beaudry station. The place is nice, the food is good, but the price is too high. At dinner time, it cost around 17$ for a dinner by person. Service is good but you have to wait a little bit too... More

Bato Thai stands the test of time. BYOB restaurant is in eastern gay village. Very good option for vegetarians or flexetarians. IMHO the best tofu General Tao in the city. They also serve meat-based dishes. Food tends to be Thai for westerners....but I am sure you could ask them to top up the spices if you wish. Nice table d'hôte.... More

The fact that this restaurant had only one table filled while the other restaurants in the area were packed should have been a strong indication of what was to come. But I had my heart set on Thai. I ordered the Tom Kha soup and an appetizer of fried dumplings. The soup looked attractive and came in a generous bowl.... More

Was there on a Wed eve about 9pm. Was the last Wed Summer fireworks show for 2013. Weren't particularly packed, but waitress was inattentive downright rude (according to my francophone friend--I don't speak French). I live on the Pacific Rim in California, so I know authentic Thai. Food was poor--I said "under-average" as part of the review title, but I... More

Staying in The Village (Gay Village)

Neighbourhood Profile
The Village (Gay Village)
The rainbow pillars of Beaudry Métro Station shepherd the way into to The Village, one of the largest hubs for gay and lesbian culture in North America. With an open layout and a congenial aura, the refurbished buildings along Rue Sainte-Catherine pay a special homage to menswear and to caffeine, with showrooms and cafes. By morning, the antiquing gems along Amherst Street are packed with collectors. An incredible party spot, The Village comes alive at night, when clubs, bars, and dance halls open their doors and the revelry is high, epitomised by the fanciful trimmings of the apropos Oscar Wilde building. From May to September, the area closes to automotive traffic, allowing restaurant terraces to pour onto the streets, creating a dynamic sense of community. Les Boules Roses, thousands of pink baubles, are hung to welcome in the festivals and celebrations, including Montréal en Arts, Divers-Cité, and the Pride Parade.
