We tried both chinese and cheese fondue, They weren;t amazing but they were tasteful and a good amount of cheese ( considering we took the express/cheap ones). The sides were a bit indifferent, bread and potatoes were basic and standard. As i said, nothing spectacular, but you get what you're paying for, it's a nice/ enjooyable dinner ( speecially with... Fondue is one of our European heritage. La Fonderie has been there for years and they offer good food, good service and moderate prices. They have different kinds of Fondue but the cheese fondue is what they are known for. Great for a family or friends dinner.

Overall we had a pleasant experience here. Not sure I'll be back, but glad I went. For the appetizer, I had the raclette ,which was melted cheese on a plate with some boiled potatoes. Cheese was delicious and sharp, but wish there was more than just potatoes accompanying it. My friend had the cheese fondu, and wasn't overly impressed. For... More

IS this fancy? Not it's not. The restaurant is stuck in 1984. And so is the service -honest and familiar. However, you can have cheese fondue, Chinese fondue, chocolate fondue and gret fun with your party if your expectations are in line with what this restaurant is: a decent and affordable fondue joint. Portions are good, price is fair and... More

Family of 5 visited La Fonderie in the early evening. The street was bustling outside, the restaurant itself quiet, allowing us to ask plenty of questions about what to order. We spent almost 2 hours talking and laughing while cooking our own meals. The meat quality was terrific, the garlic bread amazing and of course final course (chocolate) was delicious.

People who arrived before us and were still at their tables when we left, looked like regular customers. And our fine dining experience lasted more than ninety minutes! Almost silently, two women of a certain age slowly enjoyed their special meal. Don't miss the creme brulee with chocolate fondue on top.

This was my first time in a fondue restaurant. My better half took me to La Fonderie in Montreal so we could experience it together (she had been before). The food was good - not spectacular - but good none-the-less. We had a bread fondue for the entree, meat mixed fondue for the main course and fruit fondue for desert.... More

We went to the La Fonderie to celebrate my daughter's 23 birthday. My older daughter and her husband were in Canada for business so we all decided to have a birthday weekend. My daughters grew up with a love of melted cheese in any form, so the older one found this restaurant for her sister. Everything was delicious and the... More

Incredible but true. La Fonderie serves any kind of fondue, but also the Neuchateloise Fondue, the real one will say the Swiss. Being Savoyard, from Savoie (French Alps) it is hard to digest, not the Fondue of course :). Tasty, light, flavorful, like in Neuch!! A real pleasure. The service is great, people are so nice in Canada. I even... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
