Lentil soup was barely warm. Cold lamb, the tagine it was served in was cold too. Gin and tonic was served with no ice and no lime, the bartender was lost in space. Pita bread was dry, tasted like it was a week old. Service a 4 on ten. Not friendly at all. Place smelled musty and there were cob... More

$42 + tax per person without drinks for the set menu on Saturdays (with belly dancing). Was told the belly dancing would commence at 8-8.30 pm but ended it starting at 9 am. We and other guests had been there since 6.30 pm so it was long to wait for the belly dancer; our food had already been finished. Food... More

We went there for our friends birthday, at LOT of things went wrong. The seating in on authentic Moroccan couches. 1. I spilled some water over myself. I asked the waiter if he can change the seating cushions or atleast put some napkins. He affairmed that he will do it / or send someone to do it. During our two... More

First the service was the worst service that I've ever had and the food was not only cold but really disgusting. I can't believe that they charge so much for such bad food and service and the music that the dj was playing was really bad. My stomach was upset after leaving there. A real waste of time and money.... More

Saturdays are Table d'hote - so it is a standard menu, but you choose the main course. There is a lot of food so come hungry. We tried the Algerian wine, which was quite good. The fresh hummus is fantastic, I loved the cumin carrots, my husband less so, but he is not a fan of cumin. The beef shishkebab... More

The worst restaurant I've ever been too. Good decor but the pro list ends there. The food was horrible and completely inauthentic, from what I could tell from the single bite i took. It was also pricey and the portions were tiny. The belly dancer present was rude and honestly she was kind of a joke. The music played during... More

We really wanted Moroccan food - but wanted it within walking distance of our hotel. So this had to be it. The atmosphere was really good - felt like being in a desert tent - lots of draped fabric, brass and low light. The food was good, as was the service - just not great. Of course, there was only... One of the worst service we ever had. More than one hour just to get the appetizers, no working bathrooms (the staff would take you to another restaurant to use their bathrooms) and the worst waitress we have ever seen. We were a big group and she would bring one item at a time, one glass, one plate and so... More

The price might be a bit high but the food I had was very good. 40$. I might not know true Moroccan food but I find it worth the price. The tagines were all excellent. Came with a group of friends, we will come back. If you need a drink, check out the African Kiss. Not too sweet, not too... More

The price tag was never discuss upfront since the menus were taken away quickly as the waiter pushed the table d'hote on us. Appetizers were average in taste, the main meal, the chicken tarrine tasted very salty in a brown commercial gravy. At best, this meal should have been in the $25/person range, not $40. Also the waiter was pushy,... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
