While in Montreal this restaurant was so good that we went for dinner 3 times during our stay. The service was great, and the entire staff was there to make sure you had a great dinner, not just YOUR waiter.

I came here with a large group of people on a last-minute outting. Holder was the only restaurant that could accommodate our group of 20+ people. I was very impressed with how attentive and thorough the waiters were even in a packed restaurant on a Friday evening. On top of all of this, I am vegan, and although they do... More

This was our first visit to Holder. It was quite close to our hotel so we thought we would give it a try. We shared the fried calamari for an appetizer and I have to say it was the best calamari I have ever had. Great start! My husband had the skirt steak with shallot sauce and house fries. Steak... Heard their brunch is great, but we were in there for dinner. Unimpressed with the beer selection and caprese salad. Lobster ravioli was pretty good. Husband though his fish and chips were so-so.

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner, featuring a cream of asparagus soup with crab, salmon tartar, and several excellent entrees. Wait staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent wine and beer selections!

Stopped by with a colleague as it was recommended by the hotel concierge. She said it was inexpensive and really good. We were both very disappointed. The menu was somewhat limited and the portions were tiny for the price. Atmosphere was OK, but the tables were right on top of each other. I would go elsewhere.

We had lunch here and it was nice. Food was brought out in a timely fashion and was fair. I had the lamb shepherds pie and my boyfriend had the braised beef. He was more pleased with his than I was, but it was just not what I had expected. Nevertheless, the service was great. We don't speak any French... More

Service is always spot on, food is sublime and ambiance is second to none. There's really not much more to say except this is one of my favourite restaurants in Montreal.

We went there before a hockey game to grab a quick meal. The staff was very friendly. We ordered the fried calamari and the salmon tartar both were delicious. We then split the steak frites that was quite tasty with a great bottle of red. Overall good value .

The chief can make great food and they have a nice selection of wine and scotchs. But the waiter we had a lot of attitude and was very rude throughout they evening. We were there for a business meal and our customers from out of town were expecting a better experience

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
