This place is super popular and I've never had a bad experience but because of their popularity and people skipping out on their bill they implemented a pay up front system. I understand that a restaurant cannot afford to lose business due to theft but I feel as though asking for a tip before the service is fundamentally wrong. If... More

We were a group of 6 and went there on a Monday afternoon. There was no line-up and were seated right away. There's 30 different types of poutine as well as other food so lots to choose from. We all tried a different type of poutine. The toppings were delicious but my fries were cold and stale so the dish... More

You have to try poutine when traveling to Canada and you have to try it here. The line outside is a good indicator you have some to the right place. The food is solid and the price is reasonable. you will see several dozen varieties of the gravy deliciousness, don't go to exotic on your first taste of the Canadian... More

Was recommended this place by a local as the place to go for poutine. Went around 3:30pm on a Sunday and there was a queue for tables, however, it moved pretty fast. Poutine is basically chips, cheese and gravy then you can choose to add lots of optional things on top - hotdogs, chicken, guacamole, bacon etc. This place is... More

This place is basically a poutine restaurant - that is, for visitors, fries with curd cheese and house gravy, and umpteen different additions and variations. It is solid stuff. There are two sizes, regular and large, and unless you can really fill yourself, stick with regular. This is really what they do, and they do it well. I have never... More

Drove up from NY, with Poutine on my mind. It definitely hit the spot. Place was nothing over the top but it was just fun and good.

We visited this place with our friend, who's a local. We were lucky, as we were able to sit down right after we entered the place. The place is always crowded. They deliver your food pretty fast. It was a good experience overall.

I was in Montreal this past weekend and my hosts recommended that I must try Poutine- the famous cuisine of Montreal. I was also told that La Banquise is a popular spot, so I should expect it to be busy. Oh boy was it! We had to queue up for about 20 mins before being seated. However, the staff were... More

We ate very good poutines. The wait was a bit long because we were a group of 6, but it was worth it ! We all got a good amount of poutine but the plate were a bit too small to eat comfortably. I would come back again for sure.

First time having a poutine, so I went with the classic one. I never imagined it could be that good! I also got lucky to find immediately a seat and got served in 10-15min Maybe Monday 1PM is the best time?

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
