We stopped here at mid day and in the evening for food. The food is excellent and plentiful. I was pleased to notice how the tables were so well cleaned after each table was used for food. The food was very good with excellent choices and much of the food was locally sourced.

This is a lovely pub serving a good selection of ales (husband happy!), cider and wines. We were very impressed with the food, a special mention has to go to the chips which we all agreed were some of the best we had tasted, light crispy outside and fluffy middle. My home made fish cakes were perfect. Attention to detail... More

We stayed at a local B & B, Swan Hill House, who recommended this pub. Cannot fault the food. Excellent menu, great choice and generous portions. The puddings looked amazing but we didn't have room so went back a second night and we were not disappointed. The food is freshly made and the staff were attentive, helpful and knowledgeable. Fabulous... More

I ordered a steak & mushroom pie, it being on `special` for that evening. It was delicious and if a little small in diameter it was packed with filling. Having been bitterly disappointed in Reading Berks two nights earlier with an empty pastry crust, I am happy to report that the pie-makers of Devon are still to be trusted to... More

Thank you Kirsty, Mark and all the staff on at the Wheelwright yesterday. Great to see everyone again, it is a long way from Manchester but your "proper chips" never fail to delight. Gran who lives in Exmouth was asked where she would like to go and at 92 couldn't remember the name of your pub but called it the... More

The Wheelwright has come into its own the last couple of years. Its become a vibrant place serving top quality food, and the home to regular live country music events. The music venue which is a room out the back is called "The Bellows", search online for dates & musicians. Aside from the great music, the pub is a 17th... More

After driving past this pub loads of times on the way to Portsmouth and thinking we must stop in for lunch one day and see what it's like. We were fortunate enough to have my parents move to Colyton. We stayed with them over night and we all decided to come to the wheelwright for dinner. My mum and I... More

We have been here several times for lunch (can't comment on evening meals). The menu and the food are lovely, quite varied and nicely presented. The staff are very helpful and friendly, and the venue old and 'timbered' throughout with a lovely fire in the bar in the winter. Dogs are allowed in the bar. We use it as a... More

This is a lovely pub, with friendly staff and a good range of food. The home made root vegetable soup, fish cakes, fish and chips and daily pie were all v good. There is a room at the far end of the bar where local bands play - go through for free and enjoy (but you cannot hear it from... More

Found this on way from Cornwall to Dorset. The food was wonderful (the veggie burger was delightful and the Sunday roast looked delicious). The staff were very friendly and they made a fuss of our dog and could not have been more helpful. Will definitely be back when we are in the area again.
