Probably the best food I have had in Yucatan in a small cosy, family-driven restaurant in a small (and hardly significant) Santa Elena! The guacamole itself, made from local (yellow) avocados, thick and itself is worth a trip from Cancun! Cochinita Pibil - marvellous. Highly recommended. We drove there from Uxmal where we spent 2 nights. The trip takes about... More

We were fortunate to be the only customers in this small eatery on the road past Santa Elena. The women greeted us warmly and invited us to tour their home as they made our tortillas over a wood fired stove. Our paunches were excellent.

This is worth the visit just to see the woodcarvings by the husband , who works at nearby Mayan ruins. Nice large building with a traditional thatched roof , carved posts and cooking on a traditional wood fired oven outside under a roof , at least for the tortillas. Very good local food, beautifully done. The people there are very... More

Well, it doesn't get more authentic then this. The chickens and pigs live in back of the restaurant! The family also has a small fruit and vegetable farm. We ate traditional maya food and delicious guacamole made in front of us. We also had wonderful interactions with the very friendly family owners.

Very close to Flycatcher Inn where we stayed. The food was well made and presented and all seemed to be made from scratch.

We approached this restaurant with enthusiasm, based on both the reviews and a recommendation from our local hosts. When we arrived for dinner (around 7pm on a Sunday), it wasn't clear that it was even open since most of the lights in the building were off. However, soon a cheerful waitress appeared and switched on some very harsh neon lights,... More

This seems to be the only restaurant in Santa Elena. I had 2 chicken dishes, one grilled, the other baked in a banana leaf. The banana leaf was excellent; tortillas made right on the grill outside; soups were delicious and staff was friendly and accomodating. Good beer selection too.

Ambiance is unique with preservation of electricity, direct view of the kitchen with the wood oven from our table, Poc Chuc was amazing, tortillas made to the minute, probably the best French Fries I've tasted in my life

I ate many vegetarian/ vegan meals here while I was in Yucatan, and each meal was unique and equally delicious. There was never a dissatisfying dish. I am so grateful to Estela, Miguel and their family for their service and generosity. I could even count on her to make a remedy made of medicinal leaves picked from trees just outside... More
