Argoe is a casual harbourside restaurant serving the best of local Cornish produce. We focus on fish and seafood, landed here in Newlyn, and take inspiration from traditional European methods of cooking. Our dishes are served to be shared, arriving from the kitchen as they are ready and accompanied by minimal intervention wines from our taps and a small selection of Cornish and UK made ciders, spirits and soft drinks.
MICHELIN Bib Gourmand: Good quality, good value cooking
Part-owned by a local fishmonger and named after an old fishing boat, this modern, wood-clad 'shack' overlooks Newlyn Harbour, where much of its produce lands. The concise menu offers great value seafood dishes designed for sharing, varying daily depending on the catch. Whether it's sardines or black bream, the grill-centric cooking remains pleasingly simple and wholly enjoyable, allowing the quality fresh produce to do the work. On-tap natural wines are served by the glass and carafe. Be sure to book a table on the covered waterside terrace when the sun's out.

WOW! We have officially found our new favourite restaurant in Cornwall! My husband and I love fishing, we love catching and cooking our own fish. We always comment we often feel that fish is over-fussed with and over priced when we eat it in restaurants. THANK YOU ARGOE for changing this!!! Finally a restaurant offering fresh, locally caught fish. All cooked to absolute perfection and letting the fish be the total star of the table, with some fabulous generous fish portions enjoyed with beautiful potatoes and gorgeous salad- the DREAM combo! The fish grilled on the open fire gave the most gorgeous smokey flavours. The appetisers and small plates also absolutely gorgeous. The fish soup was absolutely mind-blowing. We also loved the ray wing. Fabulous service and a fantastic setting. We really can't say enough good things. So many restaurants we feel ripped off for a fish course but this is absolute incredible value for money for quality food and ingredients. We whole-heartedly recommend Argoe, we love what you are doing and we we will definitely be back. Thank you for restoring our faith in Cornish seafood restaurants!

An absolutely gorgeous situation overlooking Newlyn Harbour (literally on the edge of the water). Smashing staff who explain everything - it's kind of tapas style dining and they explain the size of a dish when you order. We had deep fried kale (gorgeous), a deep-fried sole, fish soup and some fish tortillas, all were delightful and freshly cooked. We were very impressed that their carafe wines are the same price whether bought by the glass or by the carafe. We'd definitely visit again for the food, the service and the view.

Fantastic food and service in a beautiful location on the waters edge. The menu is designed for sharing with generous portions. We had mussels and hake to start, followed by the most delicious Cornish Sole, hispi cabbage cooked in lobster butter and herby potatoes - the best meal we had all week! Puddings were also really special. We were a bit concerned that this place was going to be a bit pretentious and over-priced but it was really relaxed with wonderful service, and whilst not the cheapest meal it was 100% worth it!

A massive disappointment in where should be fantastic given the location and access to fish! They seemed to be under staffed by 1 member too, plates weren’t cleared and waited for staff to See if all was ok. We had heard good things and if you believe the reviews on here you’d expect great things. The best dish we had was the muscles , but it’s difficult to get them wrong. We ordered fish soup, but got a bisque , which is not the same. I for one can’t tolerate a bisque as the taste leads to chronic indigestion as the cooking of shells disagrees with me . A fish soup should have some pieces of fish still in it as opposed to blended right down. We then had the monkfish marmitako that had 4 lumps of potato in and 3 tiny bits of monkfish & 1 piece of monkfish tail bone ( with no fish on ) This was followed by the muscles, which were very good , best part of the meal. We then had the plaice with tomatillo & chilli. The sauce was so thickly spread that it was horrible and you couldn’t taste the fish. The sauce equally didn’t taste very nice. I couldn’t taste any chilli at all and even wondered if they’d put the right sauce with it ! This dish was accompanied by the recommended potatoes & dried scallop & chilli sauce dish, which ultimately was just some more cooked potatoes that lacked real flavour. I had a glass of red wine, unfortunately not very good as it comes from ‘the tap’ . I had expected a place like this could at least do glasses of wine from a bottle. The overall price was ok, if the food had been good. The service wasn’t great, we think they were missing a member of staff, we really hate sitting with finished plates in front of us for ages. Maybe we just went on a bad night! But personally I wouldn’t believe the hype that this place has . The fish should have been plentiful and spectacular given the location but it was skimped on and lacked greatness. We won’t be going again

The site of Argoe, next to the fish market in Newlyn, promises the best in fresh fish, and we weren't disappointed. Menu is short, centred around what's recently come off the boats. Best fish soup I have tasted outside France, with good bread and olive oil. We shared a John Dory - splendid, perfectly cooked, accompanied by some wicked crunchy potatoes and seared cabbage. We don't eat pudding much, but we did here - pavlova with some of the first rhubarb of the season. We weren't knocked out by the 'low intervention' wine list, since we prefer drinking stuff made by people who know what they're doing, but there is a fantastic glass of fino sherry instead, or cocktails. Can't recommend too highly.

Great welcome and some amazing fish overlooking the harbour. Some delectable wines and amazing Cornish Gin. The grilled scallops simply the best and the Newlyn Crab quite perfect. Do not forget the desserts-the Fig Tart with Rum Raisins tasted out of this world just beaten into second place by the Pavlova. The staff really cared and with a small number of covers allowed for really effective delivery of fresh and well cooked food delivered to the table with perfect timing. Argoe deserves to star in Penryn.

We have just enjoyed a fabulous lunch at Argoe! Every taste was interesting, every plate was perfectly cooked and just hit the spot. The staff are efficient and friendly; they've created a relaxed atmosphere most conducive to an enjoyable hour or so. The outlook across the harbour will draw the eye regardless of time of day or weather. I cannot recommend it highly enough!

If you love good, fresh seafood, intelligent and knowledgable staff, beautiful views, a chilled atmosphere, excellent wines and seasonal delicious veg and puds you have to try this place. Part of the charm is it’s setting in a working fishing harbour and having read some of the one star reviews I think some research about the location is in order. It’s not a cafe/coffee shop, it’s a celebration of the fish caught from those boats and veg grown nearby. We went with our son and daughter in law and loved the sharing plates being drip fed in, we could appreciate every morsel looking forward to the next. Thanks all at Argos we shall definitely be back!

Excellent restaurant on the harbour front serving superb fresh fish. It may look slightly expensive but the amount of fish on your plate was more than enough for two people. Would thoroughly recommend a visit. The staff were so helpful and the chef is a star.

Having seen this restaurant on tv, I really wanted to go. Waited for the chance to go to Newlyn and made a booking. On the week of my visit, the weather for UK had taken a turn for the worse and even Cornwall was cold. When we entered the restaurant, I could see woollen blankets draped over the chairs and felt the lack of appropriate heat. After all, a restaurant on the front in Newlyn would surely have to have heating? The waitress we encountered was extremely pleasant but the menu was a complicated "dogs dinner". When the food arrived it was tasty, if a tad sparse. I usually have a dessert but as my wife was so cold, we decided to pay up and search for the car. A strange sensation - a cold portacabin on the beach! I can imagine how the summer feel could transform this restaurant, but for me, being comfortable/warm is part of my experience. It ended up costing £36 a head for my wife and I to be cold for 90 minutes. Not my idea of heaven!

An eagerly anticipated visit to Argoe, thanks to a 70th birthday gift from the family back in June. It was well worth the wait and the whole dining experience was exceptional. Our servers were attentive & knowledgeable, and the dining style was thoroughly enjoyable, with sharing plates brought to our counter seats at well-timed intervals. The food was excellent, beautifully cooked, well seasoned and delicious throughout. We're local but the view was just beautiful and we'd never seen the harbour from this viewpoint before.

This restaurant serves delicious food. We felt welcomed and found the team to be attentive. There were some things in the menu that we weren’t familiar with or wanted more information about and our queries were responded to in a positive way. We ordered maybe a bit too much and there was one dish that wasn’t our cup of tea - but overall - we enjoyed the food and the vibe.

Partner and I heard good things about Argoe and so needed to check it out. Firstly you have a great view of the harbour and if its a nice day sitting outside would be lovely. The service was excellent and our host guided us through the menu which was really helpful and she was very knowledgeable. We ordered too much and so she suggested removing an item which was a great piece of advice. The food was lovely especially the monkfish. A lovely evening.

This was the best restaurant we went to during our fortnight in Cornwall which included several Michelin restaurants. Argoe is located in the harbour facing the colourful fishing boats and the menu is unsurprisingly mainly fish based. The tapas dishes we had were generous with the vegetable dishes as interesting and delicious as the fish dishes. In particular we loved the croquetas, garlic greens, roast cauliflower and lentil salad and the cuttlefish. First portion of bread and whipped butter is on the house. We loved the pace at which the food was served, had no problem with the access and appreciated the chefs skill at making what can be bland ingredients taste amazing. The natural wines we tasted were also delicious and we thought the meal was very well priced for the quality of food.

Recommended by friends, and also told it's wise to book well in advance as Argoe is justifiably popular. Situated in Newlyn fish harbour right next to the market, so there's (a) wonderful fresh fish; and (b) a great atmosphere with interesting views of a working harbour. It's a small and informal place, and the menu is mainly small plates. the super-friendly staff will help you order the perfect meal. Wine is by the bottle, and also on tap, and the least expensive white was perfectly fine. All the dishes were superb. Loved it all
