By far the worst roast I've ever had. The 'beef' was so tough I couldn't get my knife through it, and it was too rare, lots of blood. The roast potatoes had obviously been cooked a lot earlier on and tasted like it. The veg...was just tasteless. When I first entered I asked for a Ploughman's lunch but they don't serve it on Sundays?? I've just seen it's owned by Butcombe! Had I known I wouldn't have gone there. It used to be such a good pub that served excellent food, especially a ploughman's. Never again!More

Love this pub and love Axbridge. I also love most of the food here and the staff are on the whole attentative and friendly. What I don’t love are their Sunday roasts. This is the third time we’ve attempted a Sunday roast with family and...friends and sadly the last. I kicked myself for ordering it when it arrived at the table, and yet again it was sorely disappointing. The beef was beyond chewy and inedible, the plates are 9” plates (slightly smaller than a dinner plate - makes it look like you’ve got more food on it), and a quarter of the plate was filled with mashed swede (a cheap plate filler). No offer of any condiments, horseradish, mustard, extra gravy etc - and it really needed extra gravy - so on the dry side. What I didn’t do, and was very glad I didn’t, was order the cauliflower cheese. Definitely once bitten, twice shy with that particular side dish. The last time we tried it, it was a tiny dish with hard dry cauliflower in it. Could we possibly ask the chefs to go and try the Sunday roasts at the White Horse in Mark, or the Queens in Bleadon - that’s what you call a Sunday roast!. And try their cauliflower cheese which bubbles and oozes creamy hot cheese over a large earthenware dish and makes you want to lick the bowl. And last but by no means least, would it be possible to treat yourself to some new cutlery? The quality of the cutlery is atrocious, grey, flimsy and no cutting edge on the knife. Despite my (yet again) sad and expensive Sunday roast, we live in hope and will be back to plough our way through the rest of the menu!More

We visited for dinner during our stop off, after sitting in hours of traffic the staff let us phone through our order so that we didn’t miss out when the kitchen closes at 9pm. The food was so delicious and excellent value for money, the...staff were friendly. The pub had a very warm atmosphere, we are glad we stopped at the Lamb Inn, we highly recommend this pub for good tasty food.More

We chose this pub after a google search and duly booked a table. The Lamb is a real gem and has it all. Excellent staff, cosy ambience, and superb food. The pint of Butcombe original was the cherry on the cake for my husband. Would...highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a good dining experience.More

Great night in the Lamb, Axbridge. Although busy, they found me a table right in the heart of the pub. Locals are brilliant and very friendly. The menu is not too large and very tempting and the Butcombe beers delicious. This is a proper pub...that serves great beer and great food in a proper pub setting!More

We went here for our anniversary meal on a Tuesday evening where it was surprisingly busy. From the moment we entered the Lamb Inn to the moment we left I cannot fault anything. I had the pie of the week which was delicious and my...wife had the chicken burger which she enjoyed very much despite her not normally eating burgers. For dessert I had the fruit crumble which came as a generous serving and my wife had the espresso brownie with baileys ice cream which she polished off without even offering me a taste!!. We concluded with a coffee and some biscotti doughnuts which finished off an excellent meal. The staff and service was immaculate throughout and it was an all round great experience. Hopefully we’ll return in the future as long as the kids allow us!!More

The food was ok but not amazing. The heritage beetroot, whipped feta and candied walnuts starter was a bit disappointing and did not match the description on the menu. This dish came as cubes of what looked like store-bought beetroot, cubes of feta (not whipped)...and walnuts (not candied). The Shepard’s Pie was ok but lacked flavour in the sauce. Despite eating on a Saturday and booking in advance, no pies or crumble available. The pub itself has a lovely atmosphere and staff were very friendly. I would return for drinks but possibly not for food.More

We called in on a Sunday evening and it was busy, service was slow. We had a roast chicken and roast beef. Amazed that for £16.95 the beef was only Topside, near us in Devon we have a really nice restaurant that serves rib for...the same price. Didn’t like that the whole meal is plated up, no separate dish for vegetables. There was a lot of food on the plate which puts me off as I only have a small appetite. I expected chicken breast for £16.50, but it was a leg, with not much meat on it. Roast potatoes were soggy not crisp. The best part was the carrot and swede mash, which was quite tasty. The other veg was cabbage, therefore the veggies were all cheap varieties. The stuffing was nice but it was minuscule. Pudding was a sticky date pudding with ice cream which was the best part of the meal.More

I came here with my partner recently for a Sunday roast, having read some reviews. Not being from the area, we thought we would give this place a try. We ordered two roast dinners, one chicken and one beef, and a side of cauliflower cheese....Both dinners weren't great, especially the chicken one. The chicken wasn't great; it was a bit rubbery, and the skin was soggy. The beef was quite chewy, and it stated it was medium-rare on the menu, but it most certainly was not. Although I did eat all the beef because I was starving, having held out all day for a roast. The swede mash was bland and a bit lumpy. The cabbage was bland, and the roast potatoes had zero crispiness and were also bland. There's no way that cauliflower cheese was homemade; it was also very bland, and there wasn't really any sauce to it. The parsnips were okay, but they also had no seasoning on them, in my opinion. The gravy wasn't great; it was pretty flavorless and a bit watery. I really feel like there was no seasoning added to anything. There was no sauce to the bread sauce; it was literally a lump. The Yorkshire pudding was good, to be fair. I really feel disappointed coming here. I don't like to write bad reviews, but I'm just giving myself and my partner's honest opinion.More

We came for Sunday lunch today for my mums birthday. We were sat at a lovely table in the restaurant area of the pub - the atmosphere was very cosy and relaxing. We shared a bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc which was lovely and...put me in a warm fuzzy wine bubble. I ordered the roast leg of pork. The portion was very generous - which is exactly what I want from a Sunday roast! I want to walk out looking like a pot bellied pig. The potatoes were lovely and crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The vegetables were peng; the parsnips may have been slightly burnt on the ends but those rascals come in all shapes and sizes so it can be hard to cook them evenly without the odd singed parsnip end. The pork wasn’t so exciting but I am not much of a pork eater so I don’t have much to compare it to - but I feel the rest of the roast dinner made up for it. I had sticky toffee pud pud with gingerbread ice cream for dessert even though I was stuffed like a turkey at Christmas. The pudding was lovely and moist (horrible word but I can’t think of a better description) and the gingerbread ice cream complimented it perfectly. The staff were pleasant - they all looked very busy! Overall a yummy roast and a lovely cosy pub. 9/10!More
