Doosra is a 5 Star Indian Kitchen! Featured in The Sunday Times Magazine for our pioneering 'Curry by Post' box delivery. We specialise in North Indian tandoori, curry & street food dishes. We cater for non-vegetarians, vegetarians, vegans. Our menu also caters for people allergic to gluten, dairy & nuts.
After so many five star reviews we were disappointed.
The Lamb samosas had little taste and the raita was stringy , fresh mango chutney didn’t taste of mango?
The main course butter chicken with a slick of cream was over rated and only the heat...and taste of chilli. The lamb saag was more beef flavoured and the freshly chopped spinach wasn’t evident . The Naan was uninspiring and the plain basmati cold.
Despite such WOW reviews only four tables on a Friday night. They were not delivering take out tonight because of traffic gridlock.
I do question the owner’s statement that dishes are freshly prepared , zero aroma of any spices being tempered and not a sniff of the tandoor .
We were accidentally chased after by our Waitress, who claimed we hadn’t paid. The meal was paid for by card £60 (£30 min spend per head on a Friday/Saturday) the receipt said so and the owner apologised. Sadly for us the food just wasn’t good, the other three tables of guests were not smiling with lots of food left and it wasn’t what we hoped for. Will return to Dastaan for more authentic use of spices and flavour.More
We are quite particular when it comes to Indian food and being from north west London originally nothing compares in the south west (esp if you don’t want a dodgy stomach the next day) but now we have finally have this lovely place that can...curb our craving for good Indian food. Authentic, fresh, delicious food made the right way. The service was fab too and the co-owner was so friendly. My kids kept on ordering :) will be back very soon. It’s very clean too. Thank you for a great evening Doosra team.More
Excellent Indian food cooked from fresh ingredients. What a fantastic addition to Surbiton. Every dish we had was well balanced and executed with care and attention, starting from the fresh coriander chutney and going right through to the sublime pistachio kulfi. The Tanzanian Lamb Curry...was stunning in how the cardamom flavour hits you without being overwhelming.
If you are looking for the timeless predictability and sameness of an English curry house, this is not the place. For anyone looking for a more contemporary and possibly more Indian interpretation of Indian cuisine, Doosra is without doubt worth a detour.More
I hadn't been to Doosra before but had heard very good things and was excited to go for a friend's birthday. The food was really incredible. I keep dreaming about the cashew nut dish and the fried Okra! If you want something really special -...please go here. It's a gem! (V reasonably priced too).More
Delicious, fresh and quality made curries - a real winner for us. We have had take away a few times from here, however dined in the other night. A number of different dishes to try that you wont find at other curry restaurants.... highly recommend...the starters of cashew nuts and okra.Clean and smart decor and the staff were super helpful. We will be back!!!More
The Great Leader, the Icon and the Billericay Nitwit are all absolutely spot in with how fantastic a Vinny Patel Curry is. Entity justified in every round of dinner winner one has won.
Curry by Post! Arrived on the earlier date identified in time for...my own Friday night curry.
The starters required a quick fry and were the standout highlight. The flavours were amazing. I’ve never tasted such interesting filling to a samosa. The fish was fantastic and mogo chips are something I’d never heard of before, but will definitely be having again.
The mains were also excellent. Really complex flavours which gave something different with each bite. The lamb was particularly nice and had a spicy kick.
Not a big coconut fan so the deserts weren’t for me. However the mango lassi drink was lovely. So smooth.
At the money it needs to be better than your local takeaway. It shouldn’t be, but it is. Will definitely order again. If it’s this good by post the restaurant must be outstanding!!
That is allMore

You are our 'Dinner Winner' for sure.
Thank you so much for this aptly titled review. It sure is fun listening to Danny Wallace & Co having banter about dinner.
I am so glad you gave us a try, may be one day...More
I think the idea of a curry by post is great if you are not local, so we gave it a go. Our inital experience was a bit disappointing as all the curries tasted broadly the same. Also, they tasted gritty as if the spices...were not fully cooked in. I made an email complaint and Doosra offered money back. I asked for replacement dishes instead and the Head Chef agreed as long as he chose for me. I got superb dishes as replacements - a mega improvement on the original dishes! I will certainly try them again soon. I'm so pleased I took the replacement food rather than the refund.
I would have given 5 stars if it hadn't been for the initial problem.More
As my opening delivery about The Doosra, I have to start with the name of this Restaurant which, as a Cricket Fan, am aware of how the Doosra has bamboozled the finest Batsmen of the game.
I believe it was coined by Moin Khan as...a coded word to bowler Saqlain Mushtaq to deliver the Doosra, meaning the “other one”.
But back to our home take-away experience (we ordered in Lockdown II’)!
The initial reaction to the Menu was that it was quite limited although still there’s still plenty of options.
Although the fact that much of the food is gluten-free isn’t a deal breaker for me, I am aware that it is important to many and it seems that majority of the Dishes at Doosra are, gluten-free, so good news!
In fact, this Doosra is like no other Indian that we have been accustomed to, hence it’s glowing reviews.
Firstly the food is “tastefully” prepared, in other words not overloaded with Garam Masala!
One thing to point out, which you would normally expect when ordering food from an Indian restaurant, is to be able to choose your own “strength“ i.e. Vindaloo, Madras et cetera
At Doosra all their curries are medium hot unless stated otherwise, so they can not change the heat or spice level to suit.
This worked perfectly for the 4 of us who do have a slightly different preference, but we all absolutely loved it.
The Food is packed with diverse flavours from healthy ingredients, which for me is best summed up as being fresh!
Without going through what we ordered individually, which can be somewhat tedious (!), were very impressed by the Murgh Makhani, better known Butter Chicken, which is served with chicken tikka straight out of their coal fired Tandoor.
Its very reasonably priced plus, we also loved the consideration for the packaging with eco friendly containers and bags for take-aways, as they say - every little helps.
Please be aware, that due to its popularity, you need to book your Takeaway “well” in advance.
At busy times you might be disappointed if you don’t!
They have a sliding scale of delivery charges, which is shown on their website, starting at 3.00 increasing to £5.00 the further out they might need to go.
They also offer “Curry by Post” which is an awesome idea and looking at Reviews is extremely popular!
In Summary, after Lockdown II we’ll experience the Restaurant by eating in.
For us, it lived up to its exceptional reputation, well bowled!More

I am very impressed by your knowledge of Cricket, and even more impressed by your clinical review our food and brand.
I'm glad we lived up to your expectations, that's the hardest thing about the restaurant industry, consistency.
Thank you again for this...More

We do not cook to order! What we do is difficult enough, so many people ask for adjustments and we just cant, it takes hours to make a curry, we can't make mild medium and hot.
The other restaurant that offer this cook from a base, we cook homestyle, each thing totally from scratch!

Hi All apologies for my absence on this platform for a while, we are severely short staffed. We try and make all the dishes medium hot except the Veg Samosas because we want you to taste the Veg. The chillies vary in strength, there is nothing we can do about that, we try and guess up or down.
