Visited this lovely pub today for Sunday lunch , completely on the off chance. We booked our table on the Open table app, which was a very simple process. As soon as we entered the pub, we were greeted by a polite member of staff, who...showed us to our table, and took our drinks order straight away. We both just opted for a main course, my wife had the steak pie which was accompanied by some nice creamy mash and vegetables, whilst I had the roast beef, which was perfectly cooked and served with a nice home made Yorkshire pudding. The biggest bonus, was that the staff who served us were very polite and checked the on us a couple of times, to make sure we were happy with our food ,and if we would like another drink. We wil most definitely return some time in the future. A definite recommend, Service personified..More

I visited the Royal Stag on spec as I'd not expected to be in Datchet that evening. I didn't have a booking and was pleasantly surprised that there weren't many customers in. Having ascertained that they were serving food, I sat near the kitchen -...at the barmaid's suggestion - as the main bar was likely to become noisy. The bar staff are friendly and efficient. My order was quickly taken and my starter arrived fairly soon thereafter. I had the pan-fried chorizo sausages which were accompanied by garlic bread and some salad. A ring of the kitchen bell heralded the arrival of my main course which was rib-eye steak. This was served with chips, a large mushroom and half a tomato (again quite large). I did think that there could be a few more chips but that's a matter of personal opinion. The steak was good and cooked to my requirements. After a rather long pause - I think there were only two bar staff on and they were dealing with a group which had formed - I was asked if I wanted anything more. The sticky toffee pudding is good (although maybe not as sticky as I was expecting). It was tasty enough though and the coffee was hot. All in all, a nice meal in a pleasant pub.More

Very friendly and welcoming, great service, lovely food. Staff are fab, would definitely recommend. We were on our way to a local river cruise and the staff went out of their way to keep us informed of any delays or boarding times... they went above...and beyond to help us.More

Booked lunch here en route back to Norfolk. Don’t know why it was fairly empty - perhaps Saturday lunch is not the busiest time - but we all had the steak and ale pie which were superb. Chips too were very good. Cheerful staff. Highly...recommend.More

Booked for a Saturday lunch, and we all ordered the pie. It was excellent! A proper pastry pie packed full of deliciously tender beef. Would definitely visit again.

We felt really safe in here. People were not allowed in without face covering. We enjoyed a very generous Roast Dinner on Sunday evening.

Doggy friendly, attentive staff and yummy food. Highly recommend this pub especially if you are walking the Thames path as we were doing today.

Great atmosphere, friendly welcoming staff and excellent food. Always nice to sit in a pub with a nice open fire. Dog friendly is always a plus in my book.

We had been to the Stag a few times before lockdown with nothing but praise. However today was a very poor experience. We booked a table for two, made our choices from the online menu and were looking forward to a great meal. We were...seated immediately and given menus which did not contain any of the choices I had made....after 20 minutes and no service, my husband got up and went to the bar to order drinks. After another 10 minutes and us enquiring they tried to give us the wrong drinks....Then we got our starters and correct drinks. Even people from the next table asked if we had done something to get such service. Meanwhile I observed that at least 5 young ladies were taking their T break before we had even been served. The main meal was good. They also missed our wine off the bill, we put this right, but even that was confused.....lovely young ladies with very little experience happened to serve us, such a shame.....the place is not as it was.More
