The salad was large but mostly greens. The special was lobster pie, although the pastry was nice and the flavor good there didn't seem to be much lobster(lobster in 2 bites) , mostly Potatoes and carrots. The lady that looked after us was very nice,...an asset to the restaurant.More

I went in a week ago for my favourite meal, fish cakes and spinach salad. The fish cakes were small and burned tasting of oil and they no longer serve spinach salads so I had the Greek. It was like something from the Sobeys deli...department only not as good. It was just so bland with a tiny bit of feta and sliced olives from a jar, not the proper Greek olives). Went again last night for fish and chips which was delicious, but we also order the pear salad. This was absolutely revolting. It was a plate of limp romaine with 2 or 3 canned soggy pears and a gross slathering of dressing. I saw a few tiny pecans, so few that they were barely there. What has happened Rudders? Your salads used to be amazing! I used to send my Airbnb guests there for the fish cakes and salad...well...no more. the waitress tried to contradict me about the salad. I've been going there since it opened. I've never complained about anything before and was quite taken aback by her.More

Four of us went to Rudders on a Thursday evening. When we entered the restaurant it was not at all busy so, we expected a nice meal and relaxed, enjoyable evening. We. began with a drink each, ordered two appetizers and our main. Our choice...of main was steaks; medium well, medium and well. I also ordered the Rudder’s special pear salad; which from the description, was to be a culinary delight. Well we got our appetizers and they were good. However one member of our party got his side before we got our appetizers and had to eat that. When our steaks arrived very shortly after we could not tell which steak was which as they were all burned on the outside, well done and dried out. One of them was so burned the person who ordered it could not eat it and had mashed potatoes for her dinner. The waitress did not seem to be too concerned with our food and off handedly offered to ask for another steak to replace the burned one. This offer was refused as none of the other steaks were really edible either. The salad was a mix of some kind of greens swimming in a sweet sauce with two pieces of very bland pear on the side. The place was so dark I could not even tell what I was eating and left 95% of the salad in the bowl. This offer We paid our bill and left…a very bad and disappointing experience.More

2nd night in the Wedgeport NS area and we headed to Yarmouth to try out Rudders. It was rather closer to closing, near dusk. The servers, while prompt, clearly were overtired from their long day and perhaps made us feel a little rushed to eat...and leave. Hubby raved about the clams, and my son raved about the mussels in white wine. The single item I wanted to order, the calamari, they didn't have. Bring a jacket as the patio cooled considerably once the sun went down.More

When you walk into Rudder's you can feel the history of the building. You can see it but there's something about it that you feel it as soon as you walk through the door. It was a rainy(I think it was 20-30mm) day when we...were there so the patio was not an option. I had clams and they were the freshest I've had since anything I can remember. Breaded and Deep fried -- there could have been a little more salt but that's nit-picking. My wife had Scallops -- On the menu they said pan-fried but these were breaded as well. They were very good and very fresh -- so just a little nit-picking again. The service was weird though. The server wasn't very pleasant and seemed rushed although it wasn't very busy. I think she was just having a bad day. But if you go to a brew pub and ask for a flight of their beers I like having the flight on the table before being asked what I would like to eat. If I was bringing friends in from "out-of-province" I would take them here for a typical seafood platter. It's better than anything you'll find in places like Chester or L'Burg, And the portions are huge. Big enough to feed folks coming off the boats.More

I would have given this review a '4' if not for the very slow service....over 35 min from when we ordered to when we got our food. I suspect they lost the order. I know they were busy but people who came after us were...served ahead of us.I think this was the fault of the kitchen and not the waitstaff. Also, it was extremely noisy when a group of men dressed as pirates arrived! They were really loud, which disrupted the ability to carry on a conversation. The food was really good and the prices were also good. We had the beer sampler and were impressed with the dark beer and the ale but found the Irish ale to be sour. Not sure I would be in a hurry to return on a Friday night.More

I am a big fan of rudders, i usually stop there every time I’m in Yarmouth. But today was the first time I was inspired to write a review. It was unusually busy for a Wednesday night. Our server Tom was EXCELLENT. He was prompt,...always refilled our waters, got me my drink, got us bread, took our orders got us our apps and main meals and we were in and out in just a little over an hour. He was so sweet to us and was the BEST service I have ever received at Rudders and the food was absolutely delicious as well. Very impressed :)More
