We visited the La Taverne a Bacchus this week which is in the village of Pieusse. Famed for its traditional and hearty French Fayre using local produce. We went as a group of four and decided in the fixed price menu, of which there are several, ours was €28 each. For this you get soup which comes in a terrine,... More

This is certainly worth a visit - as long as you are not vegetarian - otherwise you will come unstuck. We had gazpacho & bread to start and then it all begins.... charcuterie - a lot is home made and you are told the provenance of everything; then comes marrow bones cooked over the flame of the fire; after that... A wonderful set menu, large portions provided so you'll need to pace yourselves to make the pud! Great setting, friendly staff, the best meal we had in our two week stay in France.

Very nice dinner on a French square. Great gazpazo, and above all great charcuterie platter. Already full before the mains. Kids can join the meal at a very decent price. Worthwhile a detour!

Had been white water rafting and being Sunday afternoon not much was open. As we drove through Pieusse noticed the full tables and swiftly pulled over. It was nearly 3pm and the kitchen was closing up but the kindly agreed to serve us some Gazpacho and Charcuterie. Well we didn't know what to expect but when it came out the... More

Superb restaurant! Fantastic wines and huge portions! The different courses are superb, but don't eat everything as the portions are massive! The quality of the food and ambience of the place are excellent .

Very uninspiring day, raining, Pieusse deserted. Enter this Taverne and everything changes! Great atmosphere, warm welcome from Madame, and a delicious lunch. Very good value, very good food. Good selection of local wines. Wish we could go back but leaving tomorrow...

This restaurant is a must if you like hearty, meaty, fatty food ( No wasting time with salads and fancy decorated veggies - Just superbly cooked "real" food) Soup is cooked in an enormous pot on the fire, as are delicious chunks of marrow-bone that are served as a snack between courses. The ambience is rustic, with a big open-fire... More
