We had a lovely graduation dinner at this restaurant. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. Steak is a speciality and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly with a lovely setting downstairs in the beautifully lit cavern interior. Would...More

I've visited the Cambridge Chop House many times over the years, but my recent visit - the first since it was refitted - was excellent. The food - meat/steak based - was ample, fresh and well-cooked. But what made the visit stand out was the...More

Excellent food (had a steak) and good service. Desserts seemed homemade as well. Nice environment in the basement.

This was our first visit. As soon as we entered the restaurant we knew it would be good. The menu provided a lot of choice, as did the wine list. We went for steaks, which were very good, as was the wine. The service was...More

We have been coming to Cambridge Chop House often for some years. It has always been up there with our favourite places to eat. Starter of Chicken Liver tart with onion marmalade and my hanger steak with garlic butter were both excellent and exactly what...More

Good lunch and pre-theatre offers: a juicy steak for a fair price. Great desserts (summer pudding is yay!). Was slightly disappointed about the beer selection -- could have been better. Having said that, will definitely come back for another steak!

Upstairs at this restaurant is actually the ground floor (there’s a basement level). He should be fine.

Description
Located in the heart of Cambridge, opposite Kings College Chapel, The Cambridge Chop House is a traditional British bar and restaurant that has been popular with locals and visitors from further afield since it opened in 2007. Split over two levels, the ground floor boasts views of Kings College Chapel while the basement is an intimate, atmospheric cellar split into four rooms. The menu offers British classics made from locally sourced ingredients and the two course set lunch and pre-theatre menu is excellent value for money. Popular dishes include Mutton Barnsley chops; whole sea bass with wholegrain mustard sauce; and daily changing sausages made on site. The hearty portions are best served with local ales straight from the cask or wine from an extensive list.
