We had a lovely meal at Joseph Benjamin. The staff were very professional and knew the menu ingredients and wine list very well so were able to answer any questions we posed about choosing our food and wine. The restaurant was spotless and the diners...were well spaced. It is a lovely dining room with an authentic, traditional feel. The food was delicious and of high quality as was the wine. Thank you JB for a super dining experience.More
Voucher provided by son lives in Sydney.
Had trouble booking, very busy because of covid table restrictions.
Excellent all round, service, drinks and meal.
Favourite waste dessert blackcurrant cheesecake...Best I've tasted.
Romantic weekend with my partner, what better than a good restaurant meal? We had a look around the various options in Chester, but JB's was close to our hotel, so we booked online quickly and easily. We were greeted straight away and shown to our...seats, drinks ordered and delivered promptly. Being a big beer fan, I was pleased to see that there was locally brewed beer in bottles available. A lot of restaurants get too hung up on the wine thing, some are quite snobbish about beer. However a decent bitter ale is a great aperitif, and complements many dishes such as the queen scallops I had for starters. My partner had Gin of course. We had excellent wine with the mains and I had no after-effects from mixing the grape and the grain, that myth is a load of old twaddle! For mains we shared the Duck and Artichoke paella, simple but delicious and top quality ingredients. Fab. I don't really do desserts but my partner had the Vanilla ice-cream ginger crumble. It would be nice for me to have a cheesy thing going on, there must be a good source of Cheshire cheese nearby, almost a signature of that County I reckon. Overall 9.75/10. We will be returning!More
Supported JB’s for a long time, we had a great meal here once again in May with good service. We were just a little thrown by the limited menu which just about seemed to be the same menu used during lockdown (and we had purchased,...as a take out) thought it would have opened with something new and exciting or at least daily specials. Like I say it was delicious but it did throw us. Will wait for a fresh menu before we return. Not been back to Porta yet but hopefully they have a few new dishes to tempt us to keep going back, can’t wait for pardon peppers though!More
This retaurant was recommended for Sunday lunch and we were not disappointed.
Started with the special,Ajoblanco, what a suprise. Don't normally like cold soup, but this was a different level, absolutely loved it. The roast dinner was excellent. for dessert I had the baked Basque...cheesecake with sour cherry jam, fantastic and oh so cheesy. Throughout the meal we were ( mainly me ) drinking Tierra de Castilla Tempranillo, recomended by the waitress. Superb and the cheapest, but there is a story with it.More
We came here for our first visit on a Saturday night; it was the first weekend that restaurants had opened in May 2021 for proper indoor dining.
We'd booked sometime in advance and it's only a small place so I guess that's a must have...for the moment. It's Spanish and I understand that tapas bar next door, Porto, is part if it.
We loved our visit. The staff were super welcoming and both the food and wine were excellent. There's alot of paella on the menu. They have the seafood variety, but its not confined to that. We had a very nice duck and artichoke one. Nice breads and beetroot for starter.
Would thoroughly recommend.More
I would drive from Cumbria for this Sunday dinner, and just drive home again. It was up there with best roast beef and Yorkshire pudding I've had. I was so full there was no room for desert.
Oh, and buy a jar of...the olives.More
