We’re locals and have been three times over the past six months. As usual, a lovely experience this Thursday, the waitress was lovely; and knew the menu intimately so was quickly able to advise which dishes would need modifying to cater for a capsicum intolerance. As everything was cooked to order the chef tweaked things for us. Starters (fried goats, and mushroom Brie) were gorgeous, and as we’ve had it before the fish and chips was our choice this time. Portions were very generous so regrettably we had to pass on a sweet, which we know are all delicious . Another very nice early evening out in off season Penzance.

This little restaurant is a absolute gem
Charming staff that create a very good atmosphere and the most delicious food that is very original , beautifully prepared and great choices. Prices need to go up to keep this place in business. Will definitely be returning.

Amazing food!!!!!! We were in Penzance for a short break and I had my birthday dinner here. I reserved a table the week before via email and had a prompt response.
On arrival we were seated straight away. We had some cocktails which were amazing. The food however is the best part. It was soo good. And portions were great.
My husband told them it was my birthday and they brought me a little treat to say happy birthday which was very sweet

Visiting for work but with the luxury of a day off I walked here and was glad I did.
I had a perfectly presented smooth tasting flat white with the daily special Pulled pork Bao bun and skinny fries. The pork was succulent and juicy with crunchy matchsticks of ginger. Side salad and fries were both excellent.
Satisfied but greedy my eyes fell to the drinks menu and the Boozy Shakes, unfortunately in typical eyes bigger than my belly (some mean feat) I also couldn’t resist the Banana Fritters with peanut butter ice cream, maple bacon and cookie. I’m still nursing the cocktail shake which is well balanced but the fritters are gone. The salty sweet bacon perfectly complimented the ultra thick peanut butter and the fritters were light and crispy. I 100% recommend this cafe/restaurant.

This is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. I unfortunately have food intolerances which can often cause difficulty when eating out. As the food here is all cooked fresh to order I was told I could have more or less anythng on the menu and they would just adapt it accordingly. I was in no way made to feel a nuisance and they couldn't have been more accommodating. The food was 10/10, we enjoyed it so much we immediately booked for the following night.
Thank you for such incredible food and service. We will be back !!

We loved Mermaid Ally, food was delicious and original...best lunch I have had in ages plus the house wine was a really good bottle (smooth). We felt the value for money was excellent given the quality of food and service was also very good. Thanks for making a ten year anniversary day memorable

We eat here often and this evening was our second visit since the mermaids opened up to “the new normal”. As always, the food was absolutely delicious (and the cocktails excellent too!) and the service amazing, with meticulous detail being paid to making sure that everyone felt safe and happy. Menus change often so I won’t go into too much detail about what we ate but the scotch egg and fish dishes are always a winner. Thanks mermaids! :)

What a superb restaurant! Everything was exceptional, the food was delicious the staff were friendly, well informed about the menu and always happy to assist. We informed them ahead of our booking about allergies, when we were seated, they supplied us with a menu marked with items that were ‘off the menu’ as they contained the allergy items. Well prepared. COVID set up was perfect and the restaurant had a great atmosphere. Book early, it was hard to get a table but so worth it.

Read the excellent reviews prior to our break near Penzance. Somewhat disappointed with Penzance itself (compared to say Falmouth) however, it's well worth visiting to have a meal at Mermaid Alley ! Called in on spec and had lunch Friday 15/10/21, service friendly & relaxed, had quite a wait after ordering which we took as a good sign that meals were cooked fresh. The food was really delicious, I had the California fish & chips & my wife the Chowder, both lived up to the rare review and were absolutely delicious, the batter on the fish & chips was the 'lightest' I have ever had.

Wonderful early evening meal with friends. The food was exquisite, beautiful flavours and quality and really original combinations. The service was excellent attentive but not over the top.
We had starters, mains, two had pudding with a bottle of wine and beers and it was about £70 a couple. Will definitely be back when we are here again.

Beautiful setting and very helpful and pleasant staff. Jamela was very kind and reached out to us when there was a cancellation. We are so glad we followed up on it.
Our starters were amazing: cauliflower served 'buffalo' style with blue cheese dressing and buffalo hot sauce and side slaw. The lamb shoulder starter was extremely flavourful.
Our mains, California style fish and chips and a brisket hamburger were perfectly seasoned and presented.
To finish, a scoop of house-made rum ice cream with a shot of espresso and dipping balls of crushed biscotti. Quite delicious.
We can't recommend strongly enough.

Quirky, family run restaurant with imaginative menu of food and cocktails. Really is in an alley (sorry, New Street). The atmosphere is just lovely and the food well cooked. We loved it. We had a vegetarian dish (aubergine) having gorged on sea food in the Isles of Scilly. We could see from the plates being carried past that everything was well cooked and beautifully presented. A great place to find! (They were really helpful and flexible in responding to email booking as well.)

We had heard good things about this place and were not disappointed! We ordered the crab hush puppies to share as a starter and they were delicious! For my main I had the California fish & chips and it was great - a different take on a classic dish. My husband had the brisket burger which was also very tasty! The cocktails are fun and great too! We were so full we had to get our dessert to take away but that was also delicious!
Staff were lovely and we felt Covid safe.
Would definitely visit again when next in Penzance.

I cannot praise this place enough. It’s small, it’s on a back street, you wouldn’t know it was there. But if you are lucky enough to eat here, it’s definitely unforgettable.
The chef has an unbelievable understanding of ingredients and how they can go together. The menu is unlike anywhere we’ve been before. It’s not weird, it’s just not what you’d have thought of or seen done elsewhere. And when you taste it there’s an ah-ha moment and you wonder why more chefs haven’t thought of that particular combination too! The menu apparently changes often (presumably such a talented chef is keen to try new things). I ate off the specials board, my wife off menu. Everything was outstanding. I always order seafood chowder when on the menu but I’ve never tasted it like this. Hats off to the place, I can’t do it justice.
The staff clearly enjoy working together and take pride in the experience they create. This place is really quite special. It’s small, so book ahead, you don’t want to miss out!

We had the BEST time. The staff are the loveliest team, they treat you like life long friends from the moment you enter the door. Our table had both a vegan and someone with a gluten tolerance and they provided for both of us. I (the vegan) had the soup of the day and the vegan Mac and cheese which was DELICIOUS 😍 the portion sizes are very generous and the drinks are amazing too! Would definitely visit again.
