Lovely family run restaurant

We are big fans of Thailand and Thai food so didn’t hesitate to book a table at Thai Moon on our recent visit to Penzance, particularly as it was just down the road from our b&b and had great reviews. The restaurant is run by a Cornish husband and Thai wife team who do front of house and kitchen respectively. I love, love, love an authentic chicken Penang and my meal didn’t disappoint. Just the right portion size with the perfect amount of creaminess and spicy. My husband went for the Thai style seabasss. Perhaps his fault as he expected a fully stuffed fish like it’s served in Thailand but it came filleted. He still very much enjoyed it though. We were seated in a lovely romantic window seat and our meal was washed down with a few ice cold Chang beers. Perfect. The owner came over for a chat with us whilst we were paying our bill and he was very funny. A lovely touch. I would heartily recommend Thai Moon and wouldn’t hesitate to book whilst in the area again. In fact, we are considering driving over when we’re in St Ives next as it’s worth the drive. 🇹🇭❤️

Very positive experience

We went to Thai Moon in early August and we had a great time! We called for a reservation and, although no table was free at that moment, one of the waitresses took our phone contact and called us back a few minutes later, as soon as a table was available for us. When we got into the restaurant, the colorful folkloristic decorations made us feel as if we had quickly traveled to Thailand. Furthermore, there was a nice sea view. We had three main courses: the duck, the sea bass and the prawns. Very tasteful and reasonably sized. Special thanks to Deinah: she made our experience at Thai Moon unforgettable! She made us feel such welcomed, as at a friend's house. She also took some time to give us very useful information about places to visit in Cornwall and we're very grateful for that. Deinah is brilliant, smiling and efficient: lucky who has the pleasure to be served by her! Overall: good food, great service!

Great food in a family restaurant

We enjoyed our soups and Thai curry here immensely. Nice interior decoration. Reasonably priced. Great view of the sea. Lovely staff. You can feel it's a family/ couple-run restaurant with very personal service. Felt as COVID secure as you can make it in a small-ish restaurant.

Two stars is for the service and the social distancing measures in the restaurant. Their food has nothing like thai food. We ordered starter platter, tom yam soup and pad thai. Again, nothing like thai food, even the frying kit from Tesco taste better than it. So if you are looking for authentic thai food, please don’t waste your time your money your stomach your calories in this restaurant. This review is written by a southeast asian.

The food was correct and well cooked but bland and lacking in Thai flavour or chilli heat. The service from the two younger female staff was polite and adequate. We had to wait 30 minutes for the bill. After 20 minutes of waiting my partner when to the bar to ask for the bill. He did not receive any apology or explanation from the older male member of staff as to why the bill was taking so long but was told to "be patient'. When the bill was finally brought to our table by the same older male member of staff we again expressed our disappointment in assertive yet civil terms that the bill had taken 30 minutes to arrive (the time taken from our arrival to asking for the bill was approximately 60 minutes). We were told that "other customers had waited for as long" and that we needed to "be patient" and that we should "go somewhere else next time" We do not think it is acceptable to treat customers this way. If we had been offered an apology or at least an explanation as to why the bill had taken so long we would have been satisfied. As it is I would advise other people visiting Penzance to avoid this restaurant. The food is average and the service is some of the worst I have encountered

No Thai welcome, poor service, no thank you!

Food as good as ever but service has become pretty abysmal! Not a patch on the other Thai in town. Waitresses clueless and owner seems only interested in compiling the bills and serving takeaway orders. Such a shame! Experience poor - no Thai welcome or thank you at all. So, not worth the price these days!

Very Disappointing System!

I can't comment on the food as we never got to order any! Staying in a holiday rental with no reception, drove to the Thai Moon to order food and was told that they didn't take takeaway orders in person. I completely understood this so decided to go outside and ring, place me order and then have a coffee or a drink whilst waiting for the order to be made. The Thai Moon did not answer the phone! Spent 10 mins outside the restaurant trying to ring them to place the takeaway order but the phone was never answered. Very disappointing and I strongly advise the Thai Moon to ensure that there is someone available to answer the phone as you don't take walk-in orders.

After reading the past reviews we were unsure what we were going to have, the food was great the staff explained that all food was medium but cook hotter if we would like them and if wanted we could also have fresh chillies, the spare ribs were meaty and tasty while the other food ordered was equally good. only suggestion was the sea bass could have been cooked on the bone and not fillited. Staff were helpful and very approachable. the homelyness of the restaurant was great in this setting. next time we are down that way we shall call in again

Best Thai meal I’ve ever eaten

Went here Friday night and have to say I’ve never had Thai food like it. From the starter to the main I actually believe it’s the best Thai meal I’ve ever had. My fish cake starter was delicious and the duck was cooked to perfection in the nicest tasting source I’ve ever had in a Thai restaurant. All 4 in my party were equally impressed with their meals. The service was also exceptional with the chap who owns it very friendly and accommodating

Great Thai Food

I like to visit South West Cornwall once every few years and whenever I do, I always make an effort to visit this restaurant. Due to the nature of Thai food, be careful if you have a fish/seafood allergy. Thankfully mine isn't too severe so I'm okay with traces as long as those things aren't directly put in my meal. Thankfully the owners are always happy to advise me which dishes are safe for me to eat and which ones have fish/oyster based sauces so that I know to avoid them. The food is great and the service is always prompt every time we go there. Highly recommended.

We came to Penzance on a unplanned visit in our campervan. We researched what places were around to eat, I’m a sucker for Thai food, I’ve got to say it was wonderful. Food was very tasty, we had Mixed starters then the set menu which had a few dishes to try! Wine was cheap too £12.50 for a bottle of pinot!! The waitress girls were on the money worked really hard. At the end of the evening the owner came over and had a chat with us, he had some great photos on the wall of his times in Thailand which we found really interesting. we got into a conversation about Thailand and other places we should try! Really nice guy and his Thai wife the cook came out to say hello too! All in all a very pleasant Visit, great food and very reasonable. You won’t be disappointed

The service was appalling. The first waitress informed us she couldn’t take our order as she was about to go home, the male owner had his back to us throughout and the young teenage waitress was rude slamming plates rudely on the table. The starters were greasy and the mains were awful and had to be sent back to the kitchen. My thai green curry, traditionally mild was red hot and my husbands laab had no taste whatsoever! The second attempt.. the laab was reconstituted and over spiced, and the green curry was really just watery coconut. Avoid, avoid, avoid at all costs!Left feeling quesy snd my husband has taken up residence in the bathroom as we speak! Thank god for the handlebars!

We went as a group of 8, booked last minute. Amazing hospitality and outstanding food, having visited Thailand many times I was extremely impressed by the food, even requesting a dish which was not on the menu. Catering for all dietary requirements. Can not recommend this place enough, will be going back.

We ordered a take away from here - very disappointed, Massaman curry extremely HOT, it’s not like that usually. The pad Thai was a very odd ‘gravy’ colour, not seen it like that before (only 3 prawns in there !) strange tasting. Chips again an odd colour, tasted like they had used old potatoes on the turn, threw away ! We regularly usually use a Thai restaurant in town but unfortunately they were shut - they are EXCELLENT I suggest your chef takes a visit there ! You were also more expensive with smaller portions ! Wouldn’t use again !

I got the chicken satay to start and I enjoyed it. The peanut sauce was quite tasty. For my main, I got the cashew chicken stir fry, and overall, I wasn’t impressed. The sauce lacked flavor and the chicken tasted like it was boiled and then breaded. The texture was quite strange. I would say between the two, they averaged each other out and it was a decent meal but nothing to write home about.
