We went to The Taj Mahal to eat in and were glad to get there reasonably early because not only were a lot of people ordering take away but within an hour every table was taken. Consequently it took a while for the food to come up, however we were comfortable, the atmosphere was good and it's hard to get bored people watching. We had each ordered a starter we hadn't tried before and not seen on any other Indian Restaurant menu. the House Special Momo and the Chicken Chilli Fry, when they came up they were beautifully presented and really good eating. We had our two favourites for main course of Lakali Chicken and Sherpa chicken with Tarka Dall, rice and Nan. None of it came up less than perfect which is a tribute to the kitchen which must have been going at full speed. The Gurkha beer is a good accompaniment to hot curry and the wife enjoyed her fresh Lassi. With a restaurant this good you just hope they keep the chef happy.

Have eaten here once midweek before and service and food was excellent, on this occasion which was a Friday evening the restaurant wasn’t very busy but there was a constant take away trade. We had to wait 1 and a half hours for our food. We chased our order several times and each time were told we are very busy your food is on its way. It did eventually arrive and the food was good, but the sulky attitude of the waitress who had no customer service skills at all and the long wait for food has definitely put us off returning. I understand takeaway trade is important but not at the expense of sit in diners. The sulky waitress was not happy when we asked for two drinks to be replaced as they were flat and gave out disparaging looks and vocally announced to the bar staff we were being difficult. May use as a takeaway but not sure we would return after such poor customer service.

After returning from the Scilly Isles, we got back to our apartment at Kenegie Manor and ordered a delivery from this establishment. It was ordered at 8pm. Not a large order by any means (4 curries, 4 rice and a couple of naan breads). At 9pm, there was still no sign of the food so I called and the lady told me that the delivery was on its way. It eventually arrived at 9.30pm. I have to say that although it took a while to arrive, it was worth the wait. The food was lovely and very hot when delivered, and plenty of it. Note – if you are ordering delivery that it’s cash only. I do recommend this eatery but just be mindful that at busy periods (this was a Thursday night), it may take longer than they state on the phone (we were quoted half hour for delivery). You may be better off collecting.

Just been to Taj Mahal, don’t bother. Waited an hour for food, ordered lamb Rogan and chicken Bhuna when they finally arrived the meat was as tough as old boots. We were told by waitress that our food was delayed due to takeaways which was not a good enough excuse as we were paying and expecting a decent service. Had to ask for another drink whilst waiting , beer arrived but not the wine. 15 minutes later we were asked how was the meal, waitress was rude when we told her food was way over cooked and wine hadn’t arrived. She offered wine free of charge but did not agree that food was like leather. A manager came to the table and we asked him to try to cut the meat but he was unable to as it was so tough. Avoid this restaurant at all costs, service was rubbish, food was rubbish. Someone should have just taken ownership of the issue.

This customer were couple , both of them has write a review with 1 star review is next to eachother ,Penzance is a very beautiful place , place of love , Penzance is mostly place senior Citizens who lives here . Who care and love all the Juniors , this is why this place very peace, very friendly people etc. this is my view. About the comments This is the first customer in my restaurant , who was so very aggressive towards my staff , who was using F.. word for roughly 30 min , where there were so many customers around. I don’t know if the customer have experience eating out in a restaurant environment. This must be the customer first curry in their life. Our staff were treated very badly. Our staff have the the right to work in safe environment without fear of physical or verbal abuse/ in this case varbel abuse was used by customer. We also have right not to serve this kind of customers. This customer must be visitor, new to this place. Customer also threatened to write a review on trip advioser, which I really don’t bother to reply , but this customer really made me to reply. Customer were drinking beer and wine, as all know beer makes you full and cant eat food with beer, beer makes you full. As of Covid-19 service can be bit slow, Lamb was perfect . Customer had free wine, free Lamb, still not happy ? Customers are God , Except this .Everyone can be customer when spend £10.00 in restaurant, doesn’t mean you treat young people in that manner. This restaurant is Run by British Gurkhas family very straight forward people, kind and Loyal.

It ought to be called 'Himalaya' or 'Sagarmatha' (the much older local name for Mt. Everest) because the menu has authentic Nepali dishes ... which are however hidden amongst the usual "curries" aimed at Brits who think they know what Indian cuisine is. Never mind - everything is well-cooked and well-presented and the prices are reasonable. The owner may however wish to highlight the unique offerings of this restaurant for visitors who would really appreciate Tibetan momos or Mala dohi veg. in a town where death by fish'n'chips is quite possible. But perhaps it is easier to make a living by delaying serving the food for as long as is possible ... and repeatedly asking if you want more drinks!

Firstly , phone to book table but when we arrived they had no record of the booking, Ordered drinks and the white “house” wine came complete with ice cubes, asked for a glass of wine without ice cubes which arrived later but was added to the bill but removed when pointed out! Ordered starter and meals , starter arrived and everything tasted strongly of salt apart from the onion Bhaji which tasted of flour. The main meal arrived consisting of lamb biryani and lamb madras and a vegetable curry all of which tasted strongly of salt . This place came highly recommended which was a shame. Waitress not very professional calling my partner love, dear and sweetheart all the time. When asked if we enjoyed the meal I replied that it had tasted too much of salt so she went off and came back with two “ complimentary “ tots of neat whisky which neither of us drink. Having eaten Indian cuisine over most of this country and Spain we can safely say that this was the worst place we have ever tried and we would not return. I later noticed that in other reviews that the owners have replied that they have given refunds to unhappy customers also that it must have been the first time they had eaten Indian meals . I must admit that this was the first time I had eaten a meal that bad and no, a refund was not mentioned!

Food was VERY good - we had a mix of dishes as we were celebrating two anniversaries in our family. Their menu includes dishes that you won't find on the majority of indian restaurants - I have had two of their specialities and they are gorgeous. The collection service was less than satisfactory though. I arrived 25 mins before agreed collection to meet a number of customers waiting and the two phones constantly bringing in new orders. Several customers had been waiting for a while and were not happy. I waited 25 mins beyond the time agreed which was frustrating. I got the sense that they were overwhelmed tonight (orders were obviously out of sync, collection orders went out for delivery, disgruntled customers and staff). All this is a shame, because the food is excellent! I would say that it was still worth waiting for. i thought that Gordon Ramsay would help them with their EPOS and service, given the chance! The staff were apologetic and friendly about it all. I will return again because it is worth it, but probably only as an eat-in customer or on a weekday for collection. In house service was great the first time I ate there.

Ordered a takeaway meal for 7 people at 6pm which we were told we could collect at 7pm Went in to collect and were told to return in ten minutes. After ten minutes we were told it would be another ten minutes. This went on for nearly 90 minutes when eventually I got fed up of waiting and asked for my money back without actually getting an ETA on my food. Manager could not be honest and say at 7pm they were struggling with service. Had I known I wouldn’t have wasted an hour and a half of my life waiting at one of the worst takeaways I have ever visited !! Avoid this place unless you love people wasting your time and you don’t want any food !!

We ordered a takeaway tonight ... this is a real treat for us as we only have takeaways a couple of times a year. The menu had a lot of new options ... being vegetarian this was very welcome. We ordered 7 dishes ranging from a starter to side dishes and main courses and asked for 2 poppadoms. My husband likes very hot dishes so asked for a phal instead of a hot vindaloo and this was accepted. We were advised it would take up to an hour and it arrived half an hour later, piping hot with a very pleasant delivery lady. The food was absolutely stunning ... clean fresh flavours, the asparagus was crunchy and flavoursome, the phal was deliciously hot and the poppadoms had somehow multiplied on their journey as 5 arrived along with a tub of sauce. We have refrigerated enough to eat tomorrow and have frozen another portion each for another time. 6 meals for ÂŁ42.15! Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

I booked a table at this restaurant for Friday 31st July, for my son and I. We shared a starter of assorted kebabs and bhajis. Also had the wonderfully crisp poppadums with sauces. I had chicken korma with pashwari naan, my son had spicy king prawns. Although the food was excellent, I cannot say the same for the service. Its like we were invisible - the food was just plonked on the table. We were sat on table 1, the telephone rang non stop 3ft away from us with orders for takeaways, the lady answering repeating every order back to the customer. This was constant the whole time we were there. It took priority over us being attended to, when I tried to attract someone to order something. When it was time for the bill, we had to wait again for it to be sorted, as the lady was still taking orders on the phone, and then she did our bill....another lady brought it to us and apologised for the noise. I told her we had gone there for a relaxing meal, but it was clear, that takeaways were their priority, not diners. Such a bad noisy experience - shame, as the food was delicious.

I am right now digesting one of the best curries I have ever had, so many flavours and aromas, very authentic and most satisfactory and delivered well before the stated 1hr 15 stated delivery time. We had chicken chilli fry, chicken tikka masala, prawn balti, keema/bullet naan, all fantastic.. Hally Hally Ho, thanks.

We found this gem when googling for the restaurants in Penzance and it was worth every penny :) We found a very homely and cozy atmosphere at the restaurant. The staff and the owner himself were regularly checking with the diners if anything was required, which made the experience even more amazing. The menu is very descriptive and you will find that the food is completely in alignment with what it says, which is usually rare at the restaurants :) I highly recommend the Lamb and Vegetable Momos, which are the best you could find outside India and Nepal. Actually, you could try anything on the menu and won't get disappointed. Above all, the prices are very reasonable. A must try in Penzance. Its a treat to the tastebuds :)

We hadn't booked and they squeezed us in, the restaurant was very busy. Our starters and poppadoms were good. Our main came and my chicken chef's special curry was delicious as were the sides, particularly the takka dal. However my partner's vegetarian curry was described as korma hot containing mushrooms and asparagus. It arrived and was too spicy for my partner and we couldn't see those vegetables in it. The hostess offered to redo the dish and it returned 5 minutes later much the same. Disappointing.

If your hungry for a night off the cooking and an Indian tickles your fancy then stop by the Taj Mahal. Our choice was Take Away where I had three Mala Dohi from the Taj Specials....WOW so much flavour and superbly cooked, I couldn't eat it all so I just had my leftovers for breakfast, Heaven! Poppadoms were light and crispy, sauces very tasty... Just not enough of the onion salad for me but that's because I'm a piggy haha.
