As foodies and both of us coming from a catering background, it takes a lot to impress us. We have been following The Shore for a long time & we wanted to give Bruce a chance to impress us, so when Coronavirus threw us a curved ball we went for a takeaway meal kit - well Bruce you did it! We were wowed, every single element was so well thought out, every flavour sublime & we managed to have a great meal which we shared with friends with very little effort from us. We both said it would have taken many hours for us to have created it and we know how much effort goes into the meal that you supplied, it worth every penny.

There is no choice of menu in this special restaurant almost hidden behind an assuming shopfront. There are six or seven courses - no meat, just fish, veg and desert. You have to book sufficiently far in advance to allow the chef most of the day to select and craft each dish (so book no later than lunchtime). Then arrive, sit comfortably in the zen atmosphere, and allow yourself to be taken on a journey. Each dish was exquisite. Almost no carbs, just wonderful combinations of flavours, some quite experimental and all beautifully presented. Good wine list too, and the paired wine flight looked good though we didn't have it. The only minor flaw in an otherwise perfect evening were the unflattering lights directly above the tables, with almost no alternatives.

Incredible meal - one of the best seafood meals I have had. Beautifully creative and unique menu that leaves you not wanting the meal to end. All ingredients sourced fresh on the day - some even from Bruce’s own garden! Very personalised atmosphere with Bruce often introducing the dishes himself and coming round to chat to us after the meal. Price is excellent value for money considering the quality of the food. I would 100% recommend this restaurant to anyone in the Penzance area and hope to visit again.

The Shore restaurant warrants a significant detour. It offers imaginative modern seafood in a simple and stylish restaurant. It’s not cheap but does offer value. The price reflects the care that goes into the preparation and the quality of the food and the service. Lovely to find an excellent restaurant offering a wide selection of well priced wines from £20. This restaurant is a labour of love for owner chef Bruce Rennie. It deserves to succeed and warrants the accolades heaped on it here. Do make the trip.

We were so looking forward to eating at Shore, we had heard so many good things. Alas we found most of the meal lacking the flavour. The whole meal was well presented and the service excellent, but apart from one course we could not say that we really enjoyed our experience.
The couple next to us at the end of the meal asked what we thought, we were pleased yet disappointed that they were feeling the same. We wondered if we were having an off night, but it seems we weren't the only ones.
Obviously we understand that fish can be subtle so you enjoy it's full natural flavour, but we were not wowed. A sad evening.

Our first visit to this tiny restaurant was a treat! Perfect dish after dish arrived, introduced by the sole chef, accompanied by a wine flight. Sublime and a real treat for our senses. The standard was exceptional and with a focus on sustainability and supporting the local fishing economy. Worth every penny if you care about fantastic fish and seafood, cooked to perfection in a convivial atmosphere. We could taste the passion and dedication in every bite, truly unique!

We had a fantastic evening, On arrival everything was very well organised regarding social distancing and hygiene. The food was excellent and the wines we chose, with help from our knowledgeable waitress, complimented the food perfectly. The fixed menu allowed the kitchen to operate very efficiently so food arrived in a well paced and un-rushed manner. All the dishes were expertly crafted using the freshest produce, some ingredients are from the chefs own garden, and the fish is from the harbour only 10 minutes walk from the restaurant. The highlight dish for us was the Hake with bisque sauce and gnocchi - delicious, closely followed by the Raspberry Mousse dessert, a beautifully presented dish that looked as good as it tasted.

I can’t for the life of me understand how this restaurant has so many rave reviews; I can only assume that they are written by friends of the chef or by people who’ve never eaten good seafood before.
I don’t normally write reviews myself and whilst the experience wasn’t entirely awful, my main concern with this whole affair was the cost. I was incensed when I realised that my parents had spent close to £400 on a meal that consisted of undercooked fish, a bland gazpacho and an out of place gnocchi that looked like it’d been turned out of a vac pack. I begrudge paying this amount for food that I think I could do a better job of at home (albeit minus the nasturtiums).
For starters, we had ceviche. I usually adore this so I’m not writing this from the perspective of someone who doesn’t appreciate the joy of raw fish but what we were served were randomly sized chunks of gurnard which were overpowered by a beetroot accompaniment. The presentation was beautiful, if inconsistent, but this was a perfect example of style over substance.
The lobster course was possibly the worst. Whilst edible, it seemed strange to serve two cold dishes in a row each lacking in finesse and a good squeeze of lemon. The gazpacho was fairly tasteless improved only by the addition of a grape-half which was probably the highlight of the dish.
The hake for mains could have been excellent but unfortunately mine was slightly undercooked. I liked the bisque sauce and I could see that this dish had real potential. What I didn’t understand was the random side salad and a gnocchi that was in serious need of both flavour and relevance.
The dessert was utterly delicious. Bursting with raspberry flavours and a range of textures, this was the only dish where both flavour and appearance seemed to align.
I know this is someone’s business and I do feel terrible about writing so negatively about it. If I’d paid half the price for the meal perhaps I wouldn’t be quite so bothered. I could also mention here the fact that the plates weren’t fully clean. If you’ve heard the phrase ‘Champagne lifestyle, lemonade money’ then this can only be described as ‘champagne price, lemonade food’...

If you like good food, come here! We had such an incredible evening. Incredibly delicious, fresh, thoughtful food where the best possible ingredients shone. Fantastic service - like the most fantastic dinner party you can imagine where Bruce and Vicky welcome you and make you feel really at home, then all the tables eat the menu of the day together, with each course introduced to the room so everyone has the same experience together. Amazing value for the quality of the ingredients, fantastic skill and top notch service! We’ll be back!

This was our first time post Covid and chef Bruce Rennie did not disappoint. In fact this was even better than our previous visit. Ingredients sourced locally. The fish was sublime and the carefully selected wines to go with each dish were just perfect. The service is great and chef was there to explain each dish with a passion that had you licking your lips before you had even tried the food. Small, local and friendly. If you are in the area this is an absolute must. A fish lovers heaven.

I'm so glad we found this place online and booked for a couple's night out during our holidays to Cornwall. The dinner was excellent and prepared with such care for the food and with the importance of using local and seasonal ingredients in mind. It was lovely to chat to the head chef Bruce who made as feel very welcome. His staff is very attentive and provide superb service. My favourite was the spider crab in a courgette flower and my husband enjoyed the beautifully cooked cod with potato salad. This restaurant is a must visit if you are in Cornwall. We were not disappointed and will definitely come back next time we are here!

This is what a dining experience is all about. A chef who is passionate about cooking great food for people in a small and relaxed environment.
As a meat fan coming to a fish restaurant with a set menu I could not see before we arrived filled me with slight anxiousness about what I would enjoy.
On entry it was obvious The Shore was something different being greeted by owner, chef and bottle washer Bruce Rennie who's enthusiasm was clear from the offset. Inside there were just 5 tables ranging from 2 to 4 places. The tables were a work of art with wood and blue inset reminding us straight away of the nearby sea. As the menu changes daily based on what is fresh I won't spend to long on that but let's just say it was a delight to read.
Before we started Bruce came out and explained what he is doing, why he cooks what he does and why the wines were chosen.
For each of the 4 courses he gave a passionate overview of the ingredients included, what the inspiration was for the dish and the palletes of the wine and how they worked with the flavours of the dish.
The food was amazing as was the wines but what makes this place so special is Bruce.
After the meal he spent time ensuring everyone had enjoyed the meal and looked for any feedback. We were lucky to be the last table to leave and got to know why he is doing this rather than working in large top end resraunts as he has during his career.
Book early to ensure enjoyment.

Modest and humble as any creator should be, this chef is in a league of his own. Every dish is perfectly balanced and sympathetic towards the main ingredient, with each piece of fish shining on its own without the need of being faffed up to make you feel like you're having a fancy meal. Service was efficient and relaxed, though nothing was too much trouble and our server appeared with everything we needed at just the right time every time!
I thoroughly recommend The Shore to any seafood fan as the quality is exceptional and the value for money cannot be beaten.

I previously reviewed The Shore in detail in 2017 so am not going to repeat in detail now however I wanted to assure prospective visitors that the restaurant continues to go from strength to strength.
If you want genuinely interesting food that is sourced incredibly locally, cooked with passion and served with genuine affection this is the place to go if you are lucky enough to secure a table (booking ahead is essential).
No it’s not cheap, you have a set menu, eat as a single service and the portions are modest (all for very good reasons) and if they are your prime reasons for choosing a venue it may not be for you - but you would be truly missing out on some seriously delicious food!
If you are able to: go, savour, take your time and indulge. It is well worth it and we are very lucky to have such a restaurant in Penzance!

This was our second time at Shore and, once again, we loved every bit of the experience. The service was excellent, the food was sensational and this time we had the wine flight, which we recommend taking. Particular highlights were the sea trout tartare with apple and beetroot, the cauliflower with Parmesan and truffle and the cod with Jerusalem artichoke. Every mouthful was cooked beautifully and tasted amazing. It was lovely to meet Bruce afterwards; he is so passionate and warm. It’s hard to believe he has masterminded everything (inc the wine pairings) and it’s just him in the kitchen. Absolutely awe inspiring. I hope he achieves everything he wants to achieve. He deserves huge success.
