Visited with hubby and friends and we ordered a mix of tapas. Firm favourites were The Gambia con pimenton de la vera, the Queso fundido con chorizo and the Croquetas de champiñones... however each dish we tasted was delicious. A jug of sangria and a few beers washed it all down nicely. Friendly service, although perhaps a bit slow. We... More

The early evening "cheap special" is okay but just don't get excited and expect too much. We actually opted for some Tapas because we had the special last time and were disappointed. Pretty pricey but nicely cooked and tasty but our bill was over £22.00 and we did not have any drinks just four tapas dishes. Not really enough to... More

Went to El Bocado a couple of time since I have been studying at uni in Exeter and had the best meals! It is a corner of Spain in the middle of Exeter, MUST TRY their delicious tapas!

One of the nicest restaurants in the Exeter area and easily the best for tapas and authentic Spanish food. The paella is to die for and the sangria took me back to the time I spent in Andalucia. Couldn't recommend highly enough. Amazing food and even better service. 10/10

We came late and we had not booked at table. The owner welcomed us and took us to a table, close to the bar. Now Tapas is not my usual choice but the mouth watering delicacies on the menu soon spurred me into action and we ordered seven dishes. We started with bread and olives and a soup taster which... Thank you for your kind review! It was really nice meeting you. I agree that tapas is a really sociable food, and it is increibly enjoyable to have tapas with friends. I am glad you enjoyed our food. We make everything ourselves apart from bread, olives (although we marinate them) and ice cream, so it is a pleasure to see... More

The service and food was exceptional. Me and a couple of friends went to the El Bocado restaurant in exeter after college one day and we were blown away by the quality of service and food. We all WILL BE returning in the near future. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

I'm Spanish so I was very excited about visiting a Spanish restaurant with my flatmates, so I could show them some of my land's cuisine. However, apart of being very overprized for the quantities and quality (one of the tapas consisted of two dried meatballs) I didn't feel comfortable at all as the waiters, (especially the manager) were constantly asking... Went once before and thought it was expensive, gave it a second go and feel robbed. Ordered 1 small paella between 3 and paid over £50, the menu is misleading, lead us to believe one paella is £17.50 but is £17.50 per person, one of the 3 people that was charged only ate a tablespoon. When I tried to ask... More

Thank you for reviewing us. We appreciate that you and your friend who has reviewed us above have taken the time to let us know about your experience at El Bocado so that we can improve our service. Our menu reads: "Paella. Please note: Paella is priced per person". This, we think, makes it clear that a paella for three... More

Thought would take a chance on El Bocado based on recent review but overall was disappointed. The tortilla (always a good test of quality and authenticity) was dry, fell apart and had a "coating" of egg. Calamares were ok. Patatas Bravas terrible no seasoning at all in the sauce and very sour. Couple of our orders didn't arrive but were... More

At a time when Exeter has become flooded by lacklustre chain restaurants, it's comforting to know that good independent restaurants still have the upper hand! El Bocado is run by people who know about and are passionate about tapas, and it shows! The food is always great, the menu keeps evolving with new dishes being added all the time, and... More
