Stayed at a nearby cottage for the weekend and came here on our last evening. A warm welcome for 9 of us and we all enjoyed our food. Billy was serving us and was very helpful. Lovely place and would visit again!

This was our first visit to the pub since it changed hands and we had a pleasant meal. The service was good, the prices reasonable and the decor attractive. We were intrigued to note that the menu mentioned a South African/Rhodesian influence having spent a considerable amount of time in Southern Africa. Unfortunately we could find nothing on the menu... We went to the Thatch twice on a three day trip to Devon. Unfortunately we didn't realise they offer accommodation, so we went for a drink and food. The drinks were fairly priced and the food was lovely and again, well priced. The atmosphere is very welcoming, with both staff and locals striking up conversation and enjoying your company.

Our group makes a habit of stopping here for lunch on our way to Ashbury Manor every year. Everyone had a lovely meal once again, so I don't doubt we'll pop in next year too! Beef Steak and Mushroom Stew with Guinness Dumplings was popular and filling, Fish Pie was great, my side of Bubble & Squeak magically become a... More

Called in on the way to Exeter for a quick bite and were hugely impressed with what we found. Hugely welcoming and efficient staff and the best burger I've ever eaten (and believe me I've eaten a few!!). I can see from the reviews that there may have been a change in ownership in the recent past so let me... More

Since our last visit the new management team have been hard at work making more improvements to the restaurant area and to the menu with new items added. It good to find that the real Ale is still available ( definitely the best along the A30!) but it would be nice to have the old supply of Pork Scratchings back... More

Cosy pub with wood burning stove, well kept real ales, average food on a pretty limited menu. Conveniently close to the A30.

So what is the ideal Sunday lunch? Well, if a generous portion of well cooked beef or lamb, fresh roast potatoes, green veg and carrot or swede, piping hot cauliflower cheese served separately, lots of tasty gravy, Yorkshire pudding and mint sauce/horseradish is on your list, then BINGO! If you add warm and attentive service you know you are on... More

Our visit to the Old Thatch was okay. Firstly the staff were particularly welcoming, friendly and efficient. Good selection of drinks. The food was hit and miss between our group of six. I had the one special on the board which was a beef and tarragon pie with mash and mashed swede and carrots in a good gravy which was... More

Saw it an advertised on a road side sign, and thought we would give it a try.It really was an excellent choice! It was busy but we were greeted by one of the friendly staff, and shown to a Table. In spite of it being busy,it was not a long wait, and we were served with drinks whilst waiting. The food was excellent,as were the...
