Although English's looked the same, the menu and staff attitude had changed. In attempting to be exclusive, the whole experience suffered. We have been going there for over 40 years and really look forward to enjoying a meal there. Our cocktails were insipid: the Pimm's...More

If you are going to Brighton, make sure you book to eat at English's Fish Restaurant in advance otherwise you will definitely NOT get in. Its old, its traditional and its very British and that's what makes it great. I started with the Crispy Lemon...More

Very impressed with the food. As always I say that 3 things make a restaurant memorable: Food, Service and Ambiance. It is VERY rarely I am 100% satisfied with everything on my plate but this was absolutely the case at English's. I had tuna to...More

I had so been looking forward to a delicious fish lunch... what we got was stodgy, greasy and lacking in flavour. Won't be back

Long my favourite place in Brighton, if not on the south coast. On this visit good sea bream, though the menu seemed a bit denuded and there is may e a slight drift to trendiness in some of the sauces which I hope they keep...More

Staff were amazing, patient and perfectly attentive, food was absolutely delicious and there was no rush, we had the 5 course set menu and a bottle of Laurent Perrier champagne so reasonably priced.

We ate from the set menu (£24.50 for three courses) and thought it reasonable value for what is an iconic restaurant. Particularly good was the 'salt and pepper chilli squid' starter. Our main courses of sea bream and salmon were fine as was the restaurant's...More
