Oh my goodness what an amazing place to eat. The staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. My husband booked this as a surprise for our anniversary. The food was absolutely outstanding and totally delicious. Another surprise was the anniversary styled dessert....My husband had also booked for us to stay in The Hive at Extraordinary Huts (another surprise for me) this is a short walk from the pub. What an amazing trip.More

Recommended to this lovely pub and we were not disappointed. Delicious, tasty food at a good price. The lamb burger, pappardelle main and sea bass with risotto were all excellent. Friendly staff. Interesting and eclectic decor with some interesting features. Highly recommend a visit.

Called in early evening without a booking and were shown to a small table near the bar. Our waitress was very efficient and observed social distancing (as did all staff). My fish and chips was superb, served with mushy peas and an excellent tartare sauce....My wife had a caeser salad salad which perhaps could have had more of a variety of leaves, but still lovely. A great dinner for well under £20 per head. well recommended.More

Very welcoming staff. Sadly, after that the review goes downhill somewhat. I really don't like leaving mediocre reviews, but we gave them plenty of opportunity to put things right and nothing was done. Just an "I'm sorry." Food was a bit of a mixed bag....Mostly okay but dramatically let down by a massively overcooked cod where the batter was inedible and actually tasted burned. We told the staff of this and no concession was made. They even asked if the meal was okay at the end, oblivious to our previous complaint. It was like they didn't really care. Pricing was a bit on the rich side too for what you get. Some dishes massively overpriced. £7.00 for a tiny - and I mean TINY - kids pasta with was barely shown a tomato sauce. £18 for our tasty pan-fried Sea Bream on a pesto risotto, and for the money it was all you got. It was very oily, rather small and really could have used some veg on the side to add colour if nothing else. Tenderstem broccoli maybe, or some fine beans. Anything to add to a very bland looking plate. Another thing that rankled slightly was paying £28 for a Rioja Reserva to be served a Crianza and still charged the Reserva price. Overall, the staff were friendly and likeable, but the food was simply very average and rather lacking for the price. For nearly 700 great reviews, I expected far more. The restaurant is very local to us and we really hoped to have found somewhere we could frequent, but sadly that won't be the case.More

i had driven past this pub many times on the way to Rye , having been impressed by both the sign and the menu offerings displayed outside we finally booked an outside table as our recent warm weather continued . A very cheerful and friendly...greeting from all staff and this continued throughout our meal the outside area was full . Excellent ham hock terrine and piccalilly , chunky and delicious , sea bass on risotto for myself- delicious -then burger and chips for my wife ending with a perfect not too sweet brownie with ice cream on top . The earlier reviews on trip which encouraged us to come were all true a new "find" to which we will certainly return , apart from the outside area which has many parasols to ward off the recent very hot weather the inside has been kept traditional -looking forward to cosy evening meals here later in the year .More

We were running late and arrived after the chef should have finished serving food - but the guys running the pub gave us a great welcome, despite being in the middle of a thunderstorm which had flooded their cellar. Food also very tasty.
