Beautiful location and we called in impromptu for a quick sandwich lunch. It's very posh and the staff are very friendly - really, really quiet though so we ate our sandwiches in silence and left. It is what it is - very, very quaint and English. Do give it a whirl but definitely no noise!

A truly warm welcome from all of the staff, from the gentleman who parked the car, to the receptionist, bar staff and those in the restaurant. Calm music playing in the bar was a nice touch.Food amazing, different and interesting. The ingredients in our choice of meals were explained by the staff who clearly knew the menu and were knowledgeable without... More

Probably the worst meal I've had in decades. The seven course tasting menu showed no skill, artistry, taste or enjoyment. A Michelin star was claimed but not sure who's in the kitchen these days.

Dear OxfordBassAce, Your personal opinion is naturally one of which you are entitled to and we must publicly and graciously accept as we did in private and direct correspondence to you via email. Fortunately your opinion is not shared by many (if any?) and on the balance of recent reviews the Michelin Star is in good hands. Yours faithfully, Michael... More

Booked high tea as a birthday celebration. Nice ambience, welcoming, discrete service and a very acceptable plate of sandwiches and cakes, with a good choice of teas. Now it's on the radar, we'll plan to book for dinner on another occasion. The wine list looks very enticing!

Having treated me to a lovely Mothers Day lunch and afternoon a few years ago my son thought he would repeat the experience for my 67th birthday. It is always a difficult time as it is on the 13th Feb which obviously collides with Valentines celebrations. This time he chose Sunday lunch and looked carefully at the rather limited set... More

We had the tasting menu and could not fault the flavours or the service. It did perhaps fall a little short of other michelin restaurants we have visited, for example the bread was poor and the chocolate dessert, although delicious, was too large to balance with the cherry and pistachio sorbet. The dining room lacked a bit of atmosphere but... More

We used to go here fairly regularly as a treat. The place is lovely, and service very good. Unfortunately, the food has gone badly downhill. There were only a choice of two starters, two mains, and only one dessert or cheese. The waiter said that they were changing chefs and seemed a little embarrassed about it all. The starter was... We ate at the restaurant while we were staying at the Lords of the Manor hotel. There was a bit of confusion to start with - we were mistaken for another couple who had an egg allergy! Our 'muse bouche arrived and we were proudly told by the waitress at it was egg free. We tried to explain to her... More

We have visited several times before but have never been for Sunday Lunch so we thought we would treat ourselves. Upon arrival we were given a menu which only contained two options both for each of the main course and starter which was slightly disappointing. The options for the main course were either roast beef or sea bass - as... More
