Last minute lunch. Difficult to work out where to park! Arrived just as they opened. Very friendly helpful staff. I ordered roast beef but I could have had lamb or pork. My dinner arrived promptly. A huge portion. Vegetables = cauliflower, cabbage, parsnip and mashed turnip and roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. All tasty but NOT hot enough. Perhaps a... More

Thanks for your kind review.... This has to be a first for us, some one complaining about too much food! I'm glad you enjoyed it and I will let the chefs know about your comments and to serve the food a litte hotter! But I'm glad the team were able to look after you though. Kind regards Simon More

Excellent lunch, very fairly priced, (surprised to read previous negative reviews about food but we were told there is now a new chef). The food was hot and delicious and the service was good and waiting time for food well timed. The place is spotlessly clean and well maintained and has a good atmosphere. Out of all the Old Portsmouth... More

Great place to stop to warm up after a walk on the sea front. Olde Worlde place. Nice staff, very welcoming. Some seating in little nooks, made me think of times gone by and pirates drinking in there. Good selection of ales and cider.

Thank you for taking time to post your kind review, Glad you like the team and they looked after you so well! I would like to learn more about the old days when it was just the original building! The pub is in a lovely location, lovely atmosphere inside, but the food was terrible. I initially ordered a £12 halloumi and sweet potato burger but could not believe it when it arrived. The sweet potato was sliced thinly and barely existent, and the halloumi was overcooked and also sliced ridiculously thinly. Not what I had it mind at all.... More

Hi Michelle, I'm so sorry your food didn't hit the mark. We do normally provide good food as well as well as the good service..... Not sure what went wrong when you came in. It's a shame the halloumi burger didn't hit the spot as its a good seller for us normally. Please come back and give us another chance... More

Didn't eat here but came in with a few friends for a couple of drinks and the atmosphere is friendly and inviting. Staff are very nice. Only down side is there was no music (even background) but wasn't an issue ☺️

Thank you for taking time to post your review. Glad you enjoyed the pub and the team made you feel welcome. Sorry for the lack of music as its always on normally! All I can assume is that the few locals that like to sit in the corner, under a speaker have moaned about the music and someone had turned... More

Monday off work so out for lunch. Arrived about 1pm. Pub wasn't busy which seemed sad for the lovely location. Sat outside as it was sunny and quite warm. We were quite hungry so both opted for the Rack of ribs with Fries and corn. Around 1.50 the food arrived. Rack of ribs looked very anaemic with just a smear... More

Visited on Sunday, have been before but not for a long time, Pub is really nice, Staff lovely, the disappointment was with the food, we opted for the Roast Beef, meal was just warm enough, quality of food was generally good, although the roast potatoes were quite hard in places but the portion size was not sufficient considering the fifteen... Thank you for taking time to post you review, It's a shame you didn't say something at the point of check back we could have sorted you out two more hotter meals. Beef is quite expensive to buy in at the moment and is reflected in the cost I'm afraid! Your the first to comment on pudding sizes, but I... More

I really love this little pub it has loads of character, it's inviting, warm and cosey. The staff are really friendly and the pub layout is great. The flowers hanging outside and around the pub look fantastic and brings a homely feel to the place. The staff make you feel welcome and look after you. They all also give your... More

We were visiting our Son at University in Portsmouth and originally wanted somewhere dog-friendly (we found the pub on DogFriendly.com) as we were planning to bring our standard poodle. The staff were very accommodating and the booking was secured some weeks in advance. In the event we brought Nanny instead (the pub proved to be OAP-friendly too!). The pub is... More

A gloomy late Saturday afternoon visit in need of a pint and a snack. Not very busy and quickly served by a very pleasant young Continental barmaid. The pint was good and the fresh crab sandwich served with chips and coleslaw was tasty. Not cheap - but what do you expect in such a location.
