Not been here for years, me and my wife had a lovely steak. Really good atmosphere, love the old school interior. Was really busy and the staff seemed to be a little overwhelmed, but regardless of this, will be back again soon. Thanks
I visited with 2 friends. Food was very reasonably priced and we all ordered 3 courses and none of us had any complaints, the food was delicious. We also enjoyed the cocktails and our server was lovely, very friendly.
Had recommend from mate so booked a table 22 May...
Starters good but that is where it ends.
Both steaks turned up Cold, Both plates cold not even warm, chips cold, mushrooms and Girlfriends Steak Dianne came with chips and not Baked Spud....The Dianne sauce...was not good, having had this sauce many times before not hard to get right...
They took the meals back and guess Microwaved but with blunt bent steak knife and a few other things, we will not be going back or recommend visiting on our experience last night ...
It appears they are cooking the meals well before finished your starter.....
It was at best below average meal and not an evening to remember for the steak..we will not be booking again...More
I've been using this place for years and always want to try something different but once you've had the homemade garlic mushrooms and steak diane its hard to choose anything else. Never been disappointed
Me and my friend both had a full rack of ribs (awful) my partner had a rib eye steak (okayish) the ribs had hardly any meat on them and the tough meat that I could pull off always had hard fat so it was really...hard to chew and tasted awful, me and my friend a hour after leaving now feel sick. The peppercorn sauce is tasteless would of called it gravy to be honest. The onion rings we ordered never turned up but reappeared on the bill, of course. The lady could see we had hardly touched our ribs but still didn’t ask how our meal was and was off by the time we could say anything. The garlic mushrooms look and taste vile. Definitely wouldn’t returnMore
Lovely little restaurant very clean, great service and superb food.Famous for its garlic mushrooms starter which my girlfriend would highly recommend. The steaks are
delicious as well my fillet steak ordered medium to well was cooked to perfection and was super tasty.Didn’t have desert but other peoples...deserts looked very nice, special mention the after dinner mint and the Romeo and Juliet deserts looked amazing. Will looking forward to dining again at Shorties very soon.More
Three people out of the party of 11 felt sick after eating here! Food was greasy and over cooked. The beef burger was pain and BURNT. Not to mention the salad was blackened and soggy where it was out of date.
The Only redeeming factor...was the service.More
Another great experience at Shorties. Large portions of lovely cooked food- Tonight - two fillet steaks - rare and blue - cooked to perfection and excellent fish and chips. huge pudding - apple pie. Mint Sundae and Choc Brownie... all good.
Used to frequent Shorties fairly regularly some years ago but not been for a long time.
Was worried they'd changed it, done the place up or gone for noisy wooden floors or some shabby chic nonsense or other.
Fears were unfounded, its exactly the same,...and quite rightly so. Its 'homeliness' is one of its strong points.
The other strong point is the fillet steak. Still huge, still PERFECTLY cooked. Best steak in town, bar none. Prices have remained very reasonable too, and the service was quick, personal and excellent.
Long live Shorties.More

Appreciate the feedback and I have spoken to our butchers about this. We do use scotch beef which is a good standard and believe we have the right balance of quality and price. We could move up to an aged steak but we would have to put our steak prices up to £24 minimum. Maybe we will consider putting this onto a future menu in a premium section.
We are looking at an alternative burger currently and will follow the trend to home made burgers rather than bought in so we can maintain the quality better.
We are also starting with a trial run of different fries rather than chips and will make a decision on what to buy in June with our food suppliers.
Customer service training is given regularly and I apologise if you felt that we had not performed at the required standard, the majority of our team do embrace our customer service culture and I assure you what you experienced was not typical.
Thank you for helping us improve our customer offering.
