We visited Thompson, St Albans on a Friday evening and had a fabulous meal with superb service. We all went for the 7 course taster, although one of the party went for the vegetarian version. The food and the wine pairings were exempliary, worthy of a Michelin star standard restaurant. Why this place does not have a star is a... More

we were bought a gift voucher for this meal which we did enjoy. my partner went for the roast beef sunday lunch, despite the beef being a little chewy and that more gravy could have been served on the side, the Yorkshire and vegetables were lovely. I chose hake, which was delicious as were the vegetables but as there was... More

Excellent food and superior service. We were a party of 6 adults and 3 children and had a lovely large round table upstairs which was perfect for us. Very reasonable Sunday lunch menu (3 courses for £30), starters were all delicious and the roast beef out of this world. Our waiter was great, he was personable, attentive and a real... More

I had my birthday dinner here and it was pretty good. We were given a good table and the food was excellent. Service was impeccable too!

I have attended this restaurant on Wednesday lunch, The staff was very nice and helpful But food was very disappointed, set menu wasn't cost a lot around £22 but the side dishes was counted separately and portions of main dish was very small, I choose the fish and the combination of fried 1/3 of chicory and 2 translucent slices of... It is a very expensive restaurant and the service is quite poor. We had a nice french lady who explained us everything about the different wines we ordered ( we had the tasting menue) but she disappeared half way during our dinner. The waiter forgot my wife's allergy and nearly killed her. Avoid this place.

We have been dining at Thompson's since it opened, the food and service has always been excellent. We went on Friday for our daughter's 17th birthday and had the best meal yet at Thompsons, it was stunning. In addition, the service is now of the standard you would expect at a Michelin starred restaurant, truly impressive. Booked in again for... More

Following on from a super lunch we had a couple of weeks ago, we arranged to have dinner with friends at Thompson's. Our party of 8 had a great evening, with really top notch food and excellent wine. The service was tremendous, very attentive, but not overbearing. Really cannot fault this place. It's streets ahead of anything else in St... More

This was our second visit to Thompsons and this time opted for the set lunch menu, 2 courses for £19. This is fabulous value as the food is fantastic. Certainly up there with some very good (even one star Michelin) restaurants in London. Beautiful salmon rillettes started and lovely lamb main course. The home made rolls were also beautiful. The... We booked here on a whim having decided not to go to the west end for a birthday dinner. The waiter who took our reservation Nick was charming from the word go, he listened well, was patient with our requests and explained the format of the meal. The restaurant feels like it has a over riding philosophy of how to treat... Description
History: THOMPSON@Darcys the restaurant was formerly a row of four cottages predating the 2nd World War. The gates that flank the outside of the restaurant were produced by the Iron work shop here in 1979. The plot was finally converted to a restaurant in 1983.

Restaurant style: Today the restaurant offers a relaxed, fun and affordable fine dining experience. You will find us a modern, vibrant and busy restaurant, with each room offering a different feel and atmosphere without the pretence of formal dining.

What is Fine Dining? Fine dining usually brings dress code, etiquette and expensive to the forefront of most people’s minds. None of that applies to us at THOMPSON@Darcy’s, although we do have crisp, white tablecloths, at the request of our customers. However, OUR focus is the finest food and ingredients, creativity and taste sensations unique to THOMPSON@Darcy’s. Our service is attentive but not invasive, our staff impeccably mannered and our atmosphere relaxed, all of which contribute to an outstanding culinary experience, so that our guests leave feeling pampered and special.

Menus, Availability & Pricing: Our menus are ever changing, dictated by the seasons; Phil Thompson combines his classic training, culinary style and flavour combinations with his own modern twist.
