Stopped here recently on a day trip to Canterbury and after discovering one of our usual lunch spots had closed, we chose here on a whim. So glad we did. I had the pesto, halloumi and spinach toastie wrap - it was incredible. Also had...More

Called in for a latte. Enjoyed sitting in the window watching the world go by. Friendly staff, nice coffee and enjoyed a warm fruit scone. Seemed popular for both take away and eat in customers. Although we only had a snack, the salads and flat...More

My wife and I popped in for a late lunch. We had a window seat to watch the world go by and ordered a homemade lentil and cauliflower dahl and a Mexican burrito. It took a while to come, but that was because the burrito...More

Ordered chai before deciding on food. Unfortunately it was impossible to finish it. Lukewarm, didn’t taste of chai and very syrupy. Staff was rude.

The food was good, tasty and the portions were large enough. The service was good but because of the layout of the place (on 2 floors), it took a little bit longer to get our food.

Came in to redeem a group on afternoon tea voucher - we used to visit canteen a lot but hadn’t been for about 6 months. Arrived at 2.40 and hadn’t read the voucher conditions which said 10-12 or 3-5 and were made to feel very...More

I have brought so many people here, both vegans and non-vegans, and they all loved it! Canteen have so many vegan options, and I have tried almost every one of them over the past year and a bit and they’re all fab. Canteen is also...More

Food was very nice, and very reasonably priced for the portions that were served up! Both vegetarian and vegan options available with lots of variety. Only thing is that this café is based over 3 floors, so navigating the stairs can be a bit challenging,...More

I am a huge burrito lover, and so set myself upon the discovery of all possible locations that sell my favourite food. Canteen was an unlikely candidate as the name suggests something reminiscent of school dinners. However, when I tried the spicy Mexican burrito, I...More

Description
Just three doors to the left of Canterbury Cathedral Gate Canteen serves freshly made flatbreads, salads, baguettes, toasties, jacket potatos and daily hot dish / soup. Everything is made to order from freshly prepared ingredients using local suppliers wherever possible. The building dates back to around 1600 and from the windows you can get glimpses of the Cathedral (particularly from the loo !). It is a rather rickety building so you need to be OK with stairs as our seating is over three floors. We provide eat in or take away food and a large variety of hot and cold drinks including smoothies and juice pressed on the premises. Due to popularity we also now serve delicious cream teas.
