I can't add very much to the excellent reviews for this wonderful pub -- however I have one thing to say. I fear I may be giving away a secret, but there is a drink served here that is off the menu. It is the...'Vincie Special'. I won't reveal much more except that it is named after a local dignitary. Many say his best days are behind him, but I say they all live on in this unique beverage.More

Great atmosphere, absolutely smashing beer garden. The staff were great and we also managed to try their delicious ciders.

This is one of the best pubs I have ever been in. It has superb history, is wonderfully restored with a modern touch. The owner (Sam) is a true one off, he is absolutely lovely and clearly is an exceptional advocate for the industry. He...has a team of lovely staff. The two girls working behind the bar were asking how our day was and giving us local tips. I had the lamb tagine which was full of flavour. The drinks are a reasonable and fair price. This pub is a must visit!More

Went there for a meal on a Saturday night which was excellent and reasonable and the beer was very good as well. The place is lovely, very charming and had a good vibe. The staff were all friendly and extremely helpful. It was an extremely...pleasant way to spend an evening with friends and I would recommend it to anybody.More

Went out for my birthday with friends, had a really wonderful meal, two of our party have not much appetite yet they polished it all off! If only we'd had room for the cheeseboard! Wine is very reasonably priced. Staff were friendly.

Visited on a monday night in January -lovely pub, staff atmosphere. Ordered food - unfortunately my vegan pie was tiny in size and not at all as per the description on the menu - accompanying vegetables laid out in rows. Beware that the menu on...the website is a sample menu and you will have to ring before you go to find out exactly what is on offer. A complaint generated a discount so cannot fault the staff for that.More

I come to the Monument most Mondays for what I believe to be the best quiz in town. The publican graduated from UKC and puts together the quizzes himself--they're such a hit that I have to get to the pub 2 hours before the quiz...starts to ensure I can get a table. I also appreciate that there is a huge vegan menu--something they are quite proud of. Unlike most pubs in town, it's also truly a dog-friendly place, unlike Lady Luck or the Bell and Crown which boot out dogs and their owners after 8pm. My place of work also really loves it--I'm a lecturer at the University of Kent and we often have work celebrations here. The staff is extremely friendly and patient. Worth the walk as it is mid-way between city center and UKC campus.More

An absolutely fabulous pub. It takes a lot to get me enthusiastic about something, but this is just wonderful. Great beer, food, staff and welcoming landlord. Live music and an occasional quiz night. Great atmosphere and friendly clientele, all too rare these days. All pubs...should be like this.More

We were recommended to visit The Monument as were going to eat in Canterbury before the theatre. What a lovely place - charming, friendly staff, great food and very attractive decor. We shall visit again!

Our visit to The Monument with two adults and two kids couldn’t have gone smoother. We enjoyed the plant-based options and learnt that even the curry paste and (vegan!) naan bread are home-made (the welcoming staff are clearly too modest about such details, hence why...it needs to be publicly mentioned in this review at least). Plus, clearly labelled allergens on the back of the menu are a vegan‘s dream. (Now it just needs chunky chips on the menu… but the skinny fries we had were fab! :)) The atmosphere is homely and cosy, and colouring kept the kids busy while the adults enjoyed some recommended vino amongst an eclectic selection of art prints, pub paraphernalia (we learnt about antiques such as hop presses and clay pipe filters), well-looked-after houseplants, and philosophy books. Gender-neutral toilets, dogs-allowed policy, and a lovely garden make The Monument a real inclusive sunny gem in Canterbury.More
