This has to be the worst Indian restaurant I have ever had the misfortune of visiting!!! Eight of us went there last night we were seated at a table just inside the door where people were collecting takeaway (despite the fact that the main restaurant was empty) we should have left then but having visited a few years ago when... Im unsure as to why there is so many bad reviews? if your looking for a superb indian meal that isnt rushed and reasonably priced then this is your place. Me and my boyfriend visit many indian resturants on our travels and this is by far one of the best! a lovely calm atmosphere, waiters didnt rush you through your... More

Spice of Bengal is the only curry house in Ambleside, so there is not a lot to choose from if you want some Indian food !!! We had a pretty good time here on our first visit a while back, so called in again our recent visit to the town. The service was pretty average tonight. We were shown to... More

Arrived to find take-away customers arguing over delays. Served flat cokes, ignored like the table next to us who walked out after waiting an hour in an almost empty restaurant. Food was ok but service abysmal - poor management spoild it. Shame

We had the misfortune of going to the spice of Bengal on the 19/11/2016. I should have realised it was going to be bad by the abrupt way I was spoken to when I booked a table. It was a friends birthday so I rang and asked if they did cakes or if I could fetch a cake the reply... More

I wish I had looked at the reviews before going into this restaurant. After going in we were quickly shown to our table (because the place was half empty) and drinks order was taken, that's where the quickness ended, eventually the drinks arrived and our food order was taken ( we were only having mains) Over an hour and a... The food was ok. The service was slow and the place was dead, I don't think the heating was on to be fair :-( we have been there a few times in the past and it has certainly gone down hill. Only Indian I know of in Ambleside which is a shame

It's a large place with lots of tables - maybe too many for a small place like Ambleside, plus it was a cold Sunday night with only one or two tables occupied so no atmosphere (but not their fault). If they screened off half of it they could make it a bit more inviting - even on a cold Sunday... More

Cheap decor, cold and damp, policy that doesn't allow you to order popadums or starter until you have ordered main meal, unbelievably poor and rude service by people who clearly don't want to be there - if the front of house is this bad I shudder to think what's going on in the kitchen - stay away.
