My wife to be and me stumbled on to this pub around about 1975 after some recomendations from fellow campers on a local camp site.after an hours trek we found it along with old stone floors and rickety old tables and a blazing fire it was the most welcome pub i have ever visited.the menu consisted of chicken or scampi... Lovely location and great food . We have been coming to the Duck for years now on our visit to the Lakes , and seen many changes to the pub . It has been upgraded in the restaurant, you can now view the chefs cooking . The bar is always welcoming . Food is modern English fare , I had... More

Been coming here for 20 years. This place is a legend- people seek it out far and wide. A warm welcome - lots of real ale and a great selection of wines by the glass- some niche so the entire wine list is worth perusing. Decent amount of off road parking and the place is non fussy re muddy walking... More

Last went here 25 years ago . It was excellent then and is excellent now. A bowl of gumbo will keep you going all day. Exquisite location. Beautiful countryside. Well worth a detour.

Friendly staff & a lovely lunch all freshly made. We were a party of 8 but you cannot book a lunch time table. It was quite busy when we arrived but the staff sorted out a large table for us.

Our second stay here and our last, very overpriced for a very basic room in much need of of full refurb, also very noisy as it is over the bar and you can hear basic conversations,no tea and coffee facilities so £195 for dinner bed and breakfast was totally overpriced for the inferior room,,try to avoid room 4 if booking!!

Great food, nice staff, and a very warm ambience! We will return when we next visit the lakes. Fine dinning at an excellent price!

Went here for a liquid lunch as a group of 6. Local beer was great and good selection of wine by the glass. Seafood chowder was brilliant, as was the other food. Lovely pub with log fires. Shame we had to leave for a walk!

We've visited here on several occasions before and also stayed over twice, and I always really enjoy it. Good selection of interesting foods - everything beautifully presented. Lovely atmosphere and good wine list - on this occasion having a New Zealand Pinot Noir. We got a taxi this time from Ambleside - about £10 each way, with the restaurant happy... More
