We had breakfast and dinner there twice , absolutely lovely top quality food and the staff are fantastic , would recommend a visit to anyone staying or visiting Hawkshead
Read a few good reviews and my wife and I decided to go in for a drink about 5pm as the sign outside said that they were open. We were met by 2 members of staff who told us they were busy preparing for dinner...and refused to serve us. I didn’t think they would be busy midweek in the first week in March. We were in Hawkshead for 7 nights and decided that the attitude of the staff did not merit a revisit.More
We visited during a family trip over February half term. The staff were very attentive, food was amazing and the restaurant beautiful. As a vegetarian, I find it hard some times to find any variety in pub and restaurant food, Poppy Red didn’t disappoint, the...dish I had was one of the best I have had for a long time. We would highly recommend .More
The best full English breakfast ever, it not only tasted delicious, but high quality food was served, nice and hot, and presentation was excellent. Friendly and helpful staff, spotlessly clean too, all provided in a lovely cafe. Toilets also very clean, and local luxurious Lakeland...hand wash and hand cream is provided. Thankyou Poppyred, we've been coming for years, and we love it here. You all put a lot of effort into providing your customers with lovely food in a welcoming and lovely relaxing environment. Perfect!More
After walking about town, browsing & shopping, we were ready for a pick me up. I asked the lady at the Relish Store where the best coffee was. She said, "Poppi Red." We strolled to Poppi's and though the restaurant was preparing for dinner service,...the staff didn't rush my brief order. They were polite and friendly. I ordered an iced coffee for two and we sat outside, enjoying our drink.More
Truly excellent in every way The staff were fantastic, and the food was amazing We often come here for really reliable meals, but they are just getting better and better No longer a cafe as they were, but an elevated bistro. Highly recommend eating here...Our beef was melt in the mouth, the pork belly was similar (with crispy cracking!), the chilli was delicious and the puddings were amazing Not a bad word to say, keep it up!More
Absolutely abysmal from start to finish. While sitting having a drink in Kitchen we popped over to book a table for the evening. Arrived at 7:30 to be asked to wait in the doorway as they were having issues with the till, card reader and...no free tables. Not a bother, these things happen to everyone. After a little while staff suggested we may like a seat while waiting and directed us over to some high tables and stools. The wait wasn't long before we were shown to our seats. Hilariously the table was by the window with one of the seats being in a bench with cushions and the other a normal chair which resulted in me being around 2ft higher than my husband. This did keep us entertained every time I sat up but not what you want when you're out for a meal together. Food and drinks orders taken, the husband opted for a pint and myself a diet coke. Most likely the best part of the meal. Food, I'd ordered a margarita pizza with the broccoli and sun-dried tomatoes added. The husband went for beef shin chilli. We also opted for some fries to share. Oh my god this was the absolute worst food we've had in a long time. Pizza, the base was clearly a bought base, maybe from the local Co-op. Hard, tasteless and dry as sand. The mozzarella was fine, but some wasn't even melted yet. Mixed with a dry, hard base you wonder how on earth that happened. The pizza sauce was okay, very much tasted like a tube of tomato puree than anything with any seasoning. Beef shin. The worst of the two, rice was overcooked and undercooked, maybe separate batches mixed together. The rice could have done with draining properly too as this created a very watery meal. Sadly this wasn't sticky rice as expected but only specified as rice on the menu so we can't complain about that. The beef shin was actually very tasty, but a very small portion. The tortillas added were actually a cut up wraps which had been toasted. Burnt in places and floppy in others. We also had to ask twice when the fries ordered would arrive as food had arrived around 10 minutes ago. Seems like they'd been forgotten. No apology for the delay. The waitress was asked about the 'tortillas' and replied 'i don't know what they are actually' this interaction was when the plates were collected with more than half the meal remaining because we just couldn't try eating anymore. A couple to the left of us, also sitting on the bench and chair situation asked to order drinks, the manager said he'd be over soon, the bloke then went to the bar and asked again. Order taken, pint, wine and a glass of water. They asked to order food at the same time and told someone else would be over soon to take it. When their drinks arrived the water was missed, the poor lass asked 3 times for water before it arrived. Another couple over from us were finding the situation hilarious too, they'd also ordered a pizza and many times just laughed at it. This is clearly a place that is kept alive by the tourists who have no idea just how bad the food will be.More
What a fantastic little gem this place is. The staff are phenomenal, very attentive and great with the kids and dogs. Wonderful food, wonderful atmosphere and just spectacular. We will be back in November.
As a cafe was full we spotted this restaurant, the name itself is so cute. Walked in and shown to a table. Decor is gorgeous with hanging flowers 🌷 and the staff and service brilliant. Friendly and prompt. The food was so delicious, definitely homemade....Will go again.More
Can’t praise the food highly enough. Excellent quality, worthy of high class restaurants. Great service too. Great experience. Had dinner and breakfast, both fantastic.
stayed once again at popi red hawkshead but this year we have the added bonus of lots of snow to make it a wonderful winter wonder land last time we saw snow like this was dec 2010 we know its not ideal weather for all...the stall holders who are here again for the Christmas Market good luck to all of themMore
I have just spent 5 nights here with my friend & dog. Excellent accommodation, staff very welcoming & helpful. Probably the best breakfasts we have ever had at a B&B. The only problem is the lock on the back door for after hours entry. The...door just needs pulling towards you as you enter the code. We will be back next year.More
