My favourite Sunday lunchtime venue is no more. Gone are the wonderful large choice buffet & colourful surroundings. In it's place a buffet that had minimal choice, tasteless food in stark minimalistic surroundings. I was told on booking that despite a change of name the menu & staff were unchanged- I think not. The restaurant is now called Kinkao. There... More

This was one of my favorite places on the Isle of Dogs. I tried my standard scallops yellow curry today as a take away and was very disappointed at Kinkao. Unlike the old Elephant Royal, It was over priced, didn't have much flavour, was very runny, only had a handful of scallops and was bulked up with veg i.e celery!... More

Elephant Royale was one of our favourite restaurants on the Isle, we loved the authentic taste and although a little pricier than some of their competition it was well worth it. However, after the recent couple of visits (take-aways) we've noticed that the price has gone up whilst quality and choice has gone down! The yellow scallops curry (our favourite)... More

The place has been refurbished recently and changed name. The new staff and decor are okay but the buffet now has a lot less to offer. We were regular Sunday buffet customers and went back today expecting the same high quality and variety.... we were disappointed. In short, there is less vairiety and peanuts are now in everything (not good... More

I've been coming to Elephant Royale for years, mainly for their fantastic Sunday buffet. However, new owners and management and the subsequent changes they've applied have ensured that I shall no longer darken their door. We walked in this afternoon, and could see that it looked brighter and more spacious, also the food appeared to have been moved around. I... More

Have been going to this restaurant for years for the Sunday Buffet. It has gradually been going down hill over the last few years (see my review a year ago). This restaurant has now changed hands and we decided to give it a go last Sunday. We were completely disappointed by the buffet food selection and quality. The buffet costs... More

On entering the restaurant (now called Kinkao) it has the 'wow' factor - very authentic, charming Thai décor with a stunning riverside view. After that it was all downhill. 'Greeted' by who I assume was the manager, very surly couldn't even raise a smile. We were shown to our table and we were given 1 menu between 2 of us.... More

I've lived in the Docklands for 13 years and been here frequently over the years...however it's noticeable that the quality of food and service has deteriorated gradually. Sad to say that the crowds that use to come here have also slowly dwindled away. Food on the a la carte menu is pretty good if not for the really long service... More

What a lovely restaurant by the river. Great for summer drinks or meals. They do live music too, but we purely went for the dinner and cocktails on a few occasions. Great food and atmosphere; family friendly.

We regularly dined at this restaurant in the past. We didn't know about the new management but we decided to order delivery and went with our favourite selection of food: Tom Yum, Red duck curry and scallops yellow curry. Tomy Yum didn't even resemble the traditional Tom Yum look. The soup was ultra dark brown with a taste of the... More
