Hard to find, but more than worth the effort! Vanilla Black is a vegetarian restaurant, also offering very nice vegan The menu tells you the ingredients, but its impossible to know what and how they it is going to be served. Every course is surprise on its own. If you are in for a special fine dining experience, go visit!

We visited yesterday for a family birthday. The food was fantastic and beautifully presented. The service was excellent. Although we are all vegetarian I think it could convert any meat eater, for us it was great to be able to choose from the whole menu. I also felt that the bill was not that much more expensive than our breakfast... More

Just perfect! Although seemingly out of the way and situated in a strange area, the quietness is just what you need to have the perfect intimate date. Michelin awarded food that should definitely be awarded more stars, they never fail to impress! The Charred and Iced avocado with olive crumb is my favourite and the roasted white chocolate and sept... More

Second time eating at this restaurant and the food was as wonderful as the first time. This was for me and my partner a special lunch, the food was amazing the waitresses were so polite and friendly. I'll definitely look forward to a third visit.

I am not a vegetarian, but a good friend is, and it was great for her to go to a restaurant and have the whole menu to go at. For me, I will often choose the vegetarian option when eating out, so was happy to try a new (to us) vegetarian restaurant - but I wasn't expecting such innovative and... More

Not only is the food outstanding, but consistently so. Even though I knew what to expect, I was impressed again by the variety of the dishes and their sheer tastiness. They also have this magic trick: you feel satisfied, but somehow can always make a little room for their wonderful desserts.

I booked for my girlfriends birthday to dine Saturday night. The restaurant didn't seem that busy and our reservation was later than I'd normally book. We arrived 20 minutes early I feel it's a necessary thing to do but we were very bluntly told us our table wasn't ready and all we could do is wait by the bar. The... More

My wife and I always try to pay at least a couple of visit per year to this lovely vegetarian restaurant in London. The food is always incredibly good and very well presented. Don't forget to book!

This was really disappointing. No real texture to the food and the flavor combinations did not work for us. Couldn't face the desert menu.

Shows what you can do without meat. I'm not vegetarian and neither were my companions. We all tucked in with gusto. Our only comment was that perhaps the food is a little on trend with portions and presentation which would have then been 5 stars. Honestly, a little less faffage with the plating and little more generous with main ingredients... More

Your mother's mantra of "eat your vegetables" probably never brought to mind dishes quite like this. Vanilla Black restaurant, originally from York but now located in the City of London near Chancery Lane, smashes the stereotype of bland, lentil-laden hippie dishes. Instead, Vanilla Black takes a modern, imaginative and ambitious approach to vegetarian cuisine. Result? It is the only vegetarian restaurant in London that's recommended in the Michelin Guide. At Vanilla Black, it's not "vegetarian cooking", it's "vegetable cuisine". The dining areas are spacious and done with art deco-esque flair, Vanilla Black's cool and comfortable dining room sets the stage for its innovative cuisine. Dishes such as hickory smoked duck egg and Ducketts Caerphilly pudding and sweet potato vindaloo with saffron risotto are sure to make an impression on even the most diehard carnivore. Vanilla Black's desserts like carrot cake and orange sorbet with crystallised coriander delight the palate.

Staying in City of London

Neighbourhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighbourhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighbourhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
